Job details:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is implementing a project to establish the National Farmers’ Leadership Centre (NFLC) at Kampiringisa in Mpigi District. The project which started in 2011 is funded by a bilateral grant from the Republic of Korea through the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Construction of buildings and other infrastructure is almost completed and the equipping the centre with requisite equipment and materials is on-going. Based on the Korean experience, NFLC focuses on mind-set change training for Agricultural leaders, community leaders and the political and civic leaders for the overall rural transformation.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries, wishes to invite suitably qualified Ugandan citizens to fill the following vacant positions at the National Farmers‘ Leadership Centre (NFLC)

POST: ASSISTANT LIVESTOCK TECHNICIAN
Number of Vacancies: One (1)
Salary Scale: Attractive
Age: 21 years and above
Repairs to: Livestock Technician

Academic qualifications
Diploma in Animal Production / Husbandry or Crop Production with a biase in Livestock Production and management or Husbandry from a recognized institution.

The incumbent will be responsible to the Livestock Technician in performing the following duties;
Duties and responsibilities

  • Feed mixing with supplements for poultry, swine and diary;
  • Feeding and watering and cleaning of chicken, swine and diary pens;
  • Hatching and brooding of day old chicks;
  • Maintenance of hygiene and sanitation in and around animal houses;
  • Egg collection, grading and storage;
  • Milking of dairy cows and ensuring appropriate milk hygiene and storage;
  • Participate in setting and establishment of livestock production technologies for training and demonstration;
  • Participate in development of work plans and budgets for the livestock department;
  • Participate in identification and treatment of sick animals at NFLC;
  • Attend livestock department and staff meetings.

  • Proven ability to work under minimum supervision;
  • Effective planning, organizing and coordinating skills;
  • Ability to effectively train and coach others;
  • Hands on experience with Management of Animals;
  • Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills;

  • Must demonstrate high levels of Professionalism; _
  • Should be able to work calmly under pressure;
  • Ability to live and work in an institutional and camp environment

Applicants who will not hear from the Ministry upon completion of recruitment and selection exercise should consider themselves unsuccessful. All jobs are on contract basis for a period of one year, renewable based on satisfactory performance and includes a six months probationary period.
