The American Refugee Committee (ARC) works with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to refugees, displaced people and host communities – to better survive conflicts and crisis, and to rebuild lives of dignity, health, security and self-sufficiency. ARC presently works in and with partners in ten countries globally. ARC has been operational in Uganda since 1994, and today has a strong and committed team of over 130 regular, full time national staff and partners. The overall goal of the Uganda program is to improve the well-being and self-reliance of the displaced refugee populations by ensuring the provision of basic services (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Community Services; SGBV/Protection; Child protection; Mental Health & Psychosocial support), currently in six refugee settlements - Nakivale, Oruchinga, Kyaaka II, Kyagwali, Bidi Bidi and Palabek - in Uganda. ARC is looking for competent, qualified, self-driven and committed individuals to be part of and contribute to accomplishing our ambitious and exciting 2018/2019 programming – several challenging full time positions, across the various refugee settlement sites as well as at the ARC main office – Kampala, Uganda:

Job Title: Program Manager (1 position)
Reports to: Area Coordinator
Location: Kyangwali

Job Summary
The Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing the refugee SGBV protection program in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement. He /She will work with implementing partners in the settlement to ensure that the principles of effective and high quality SGBV and people of special needs programming are applied by providing technical support and supervision consistent with international, national standards and ensure that program design and implementation creates no harm in the communities, promotes human rights and has positive impact.


Minimum qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community development, Psychology or related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years program management experience in GBV/protection or similar with displaced populations, or in post conflict settings
  • Excellent experience in leading and managing emergency response project(s) addressing protection or GBV prevention and response
  • Good knowledge of GBV international best practices, including IASC GBV Guidelines, Caring for Survivors, SOPs, IMS and Coordinator Handbook; and knowledge on SASA! approach is added advantage
