The GIZ Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency programme (PREEEP) is looking for a full-time information Technologies Specialist based in Kampala.

The Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency programme (PREEEP) is a programme implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic cooperation and Development (BMZ) that supports the Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in the areas of energy policy, rural electrification, improvement of market structures in the energy sector and energy efficiency. The overall objective of the programme is to ensure that the framework conditions for the sustainable supply of energy to enterprises and households in Uganda are improved. Still under the The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development's German Climate Technology Fund (Dlfll), PREEEP is implementing in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA)

The Promotion of Mini-Grids for Rural Electrification (Pro Mini-Grids) project that is designed to support project developers and government actors to ensure long—term decentralized renewable energy mini-grids \ operated by the private sector.

The programme is further complemented with a co-financing by the Dutch-German- Norwegian-Australian-British-Swiss partnership, Energizing Development (EnDev), to improve access to modern energy services to Households, SMEs and Social institutions.

Furthermore the global Global Carbon Market programme of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation has commissioned PREEEP to‘ support East Africa's governments and the private sector to further participate in carbon market mechanisms (CDM), and promote sustainable and low carbon development pathways.

Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for the

• Maintenance of information technology and management systems for the GIZ
• PREEEP
• Regular updating of computer software and programs for the GIZ
• PREEEP components, in line with guidelines from head office
• Provision of technical assistance to GIZ
• PREEEP team members and database management.

Within this context, s/he fulfills the following tasks:

Tasks
Hardware related Tasks

• Makes sure all hardware is up to date with standards set by GIZ head office, including laptops, servers, and all desktop computers
• Maintains PC, notebook, printer, digital camera, scanner and other hardware components
• Consults with the PREEEP programme Coordinator with regard to new or improvement of certain systems and networks; tests new hardware and does recommendations for the purchase of new systems, including the upgrading existing systems and all relevant items pertaining to network and PCs

Software related tasks

• Supports all software packages used at the GIZ (e.g. APS, AMS, MS Office, WinPACCS, SAP)
• Tests new or upgraded software systems and updates all software to the latest versions
• Establishes/Maintains proper back-up systems and ensures system security both in the GIZ PREEEP office as well as the district offices where applicable.
• Ensures that the anti—virus software is updated periodically both in the GIZ PREEEP office as well as the district offices where applicable.

Website related tasks

• Maintains and updates existing website
•  Coordinates regularly with the Web Editor and the projects/program leaders on necessary adjustments to the homepage

Operational support

• installs/manages and maintains a local area network (LAN)
• Confers with vendors to guarantee maintenance of network, PABX and computer equipment
• Maintains market research on quality and economical prices and advises on the procurement of computer equipment

General Services

• Installs, manages, and maintains the general administration of the entire system
•  Backs-up data and takes care of Anti
• Hacking issues
• Handles troubleshooting and solving of all computer and internet related problems, prepares information needed, and maintains telephonic support
• Ensures an emergency deputy service
• Keeps an inventory of hard and software and updates list as soon as changes occur
• Documents the installation and settings on the server and on each computer

Other Duties/Additional Tasks

• Assists in and/or carries out other project activities and other tasks, as assigned
• Undertakes further lob training related to his/her position and duties, if required.

Required Entry Qualifications and Competencies
Formal Education

• BA in Information Technology or Computer Science

Professional Experience

• At least 3 years of professional working experience in a similar position

Information Treatment

• Excellent command of lT hardware systems, current operation software, IT Network systems, data bank management software, GIZ -intranet and basic understanding of specific GIZ software (SAP, APS, AMS, PACCS, etc.)

Other Qualifications\

• Excellent English spoken and written and Local Language skills
