Assistant Ecology Team Leader

The purpose of this position is to serve as Assistant team Leader, heading one of the Ecology teams for on-going plague Ecology projects under the Zoonotics Disease Cooperative Agreement between the Uganda Virus Research institute and the US Centres for Diseases Control and Prevention. This is a full time ﬁeld oriented job based at the UVRI/CDC Plague Program Laboratory in Arua. Applicants are required to have professional knowledge of biological science sufﬁcient to independently perform re-occurring, well-deﬁned ecology projects. Applicants are also required to have supervisor and management experience and be willing to work full time in remote villages of West Nile Regions of Uganda and elsewhere in Uganda as need may arise. The Applicant should be field oriented and self-motivated.
The successful applicant will assist the Head Ecologist in providing leadership to Ecology ﬁeld teams based in Arua and operating in remote villages of Arua and Zombo districts in West Nile Uganda. This is a challenging position that requires delivery of key milestones from the outset. it will involve working with communities and other stakeholders both internal and external to UVRI at a range of levels of seniority and within a wide range of specialist areas across institutions/organizations.
Reports to the Head Ecologist and carries out the following duties:
A minimum academic qualiﬁcation of a Bachelor's degree in Botany/Zoology or a degree in any other related biological Science ﬁeld with at least 2 years‘ experience in relevant active research organization with leadership focus.
Computer skills in Microsoft ofﬁce package.
