Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Mechanical Engineer.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Project Director. The incumbent will be responsible for;

  • Reviewing construction drawing from design and constructability point of view while working closely with design team to understand design intent as well as carrying out value engineering whenever an opportunity arises.
  • Supervising and checking daily site work related to heating ventilation and air conditioning ; installation of boilers, chillers, air handling units plumbing and piping works, medical gas systems. and building management systems, as well as to ensure that the work is as per drawings and applicable standards and codes.
  • - Preparing purchase requisitions for all mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, clarifiers. air handlers, terminal units, medical air plants, building management systems, laundry machines, cooking ranges, washers, etc, while obtaining and reviewing technical submittals in coordination with consultants and equipment planners to prepare technical comparatives summaries for procurement approvals.
  • Review the MFLP shop drawings prepared by the contractor(s) and report any discrepancy. Gain formal approval before execution. Coordinate with other trade to avoid any coordination problem that may arise during execution of work at site
  • Measuring quantities of works executed by the contractor(s) at site and verify contractors bills.
  • Attending regular site meetings with consultants and Contractors to resolve site issues. Give immediate decisions in coordination with the Project Director to avoid any delay.
  • Witness commissioning of equipment and prepare the reports.
  • Preparing punch list on completion of the work and ensure that all listed item are attended by the contractor(s) before issuance of completion certificate.
  • Reviewing and checkAs-built drawings upon completion of projects, prepare commissioning documents along with operational and maintenance manuals for mechanical works.
  • Renew operation and maintenance manuals submitted by the contractor and ensure that the system write up and complete information including all catalogs are submitted
  • Maintaining and organizing all construction documents such as submittals, test reports, transmittal letters, change orders, memos, shop drawings and manuals etc.

Requirements

To quality the applicant must:

  • Have a Bachelors’ degree in Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Have a minimum of 5 years working experience with solid track record in construction industry, preferably in hospitals and healthcare institution.
  • Be proficient in using computer aided software such as AutoGAD, Revit Mechanical etc.
  • Hare a strong technical understanding HVAG, plumbing system, boiler/steam generator, medical gas systems, building management system, mechanical construction material and installation methods.
  • Be highly motivated with self-initiative and strong communication skills.
