The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the vacant positions under Strengthening Institutional Development Project (SIDP).

Job Title: Senior Public Relations Officer
Contract period: 24 months
Salary Scale: U3
Reports to: Under Secretary, Finance and Administration
Number of vacancies: One

Job Purpose:
To build, maintain and manage the reputation of the organization, through monitoring public Media, conducting research and disseminating_ relevant information to the Public and other stakeholders for purposes of maintaining goodwill and better understanding between the Institution and its clientele.

Key Functions:

  • Develop and implement plans and strategies on Public Relations (PR);
  • Disseminate relevant information to the Public, colleagues and key stakeholders on behalf of the Institution and communicate with within the institution as required;
  • Liaise with, and answer enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations via telephone, email, publications or any other means for purposes of keeping the integrity and reputation of the institution;
  • Research, write and distribute press releases to targeted media groups as desired;
  • Collate and analyze media coverage managing and update information with users on social media sites such as Twitter and Face book;
  • Write, edit and publish in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports on the institution;
  • Prepare and supervise the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programs for the institution;
  • Organize events for the institution including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours;
  • Post, maintain and update information on the organization's website;
  • Foster community relations through events such as open days and through involvement in community initiatives on behalf of the institution;
  • Manage the Public Relations (PR) aspect of a potential crisis situation on behalf of the institution;
  • Offer support in the preparation and production of the Ministry publicity materials i.e. brochures, handouts, website content, direct mail, leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films 1 and multimedia programs; i
  • Any other duties as maybe assigned from time to time.

Person Specifications:
(a) Academic Qualifications

  • An Honors Degree in Mass Communications, or communication and Media Studies or Public Relations from a recognized Training institution;
  • MUST have a Post Graduate qualification in any of the t disciplines above from recognized Training institution is;
  • Professional training in English and Creative Writing or
  • Marketing is an added advantage;

(b) Experience:

  • Must have practical working experience of at least 6 years in the field of communications or public relations or marketing; i in a Government setting or a reputable organization.

(c) Competencies:

Applicants subsequently short listed for oral interviews and their names displayed on the Ministry website or on the MAAIF Notice Board, shall be required to present certified copies and originals of their academic transcripts and certificates at the time of sitting the oral interviews.

Applicants who shall not have heard from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries, on completion of the selection exercise should consider themselves as unsuccessful.
