Oxfam is seeking to recruit a Women's Rights Advisor to join our dynamic, innovative and committed team. S/he should have job-specific technical skills, dynamism, and commitment to the cause of overcoming poverty and suffering. S/he needs to beyond unquestionable integrity and committed to 0xfam's values.

The role '
The incumbent will report to the Head of Programs, and plays a critical advisory role in the realization of Oxfam in Uganda's ambition to put Women's rights at the centre of programs. S/he will provide strategic leadership on Women's rights programs and act as the face of Oxfam on women‘s rights programming. S/he is a member of the Country Management Team (CMT)

Specific job responsibilities

  • Leads the development and management of all women rights programs, supports and advises Thematic Managers, Programme Quality and learning, Policy and Research Coordinator and Head of Programs on women's rights centred programming across all the thematic priorities ot Oxfam's work in Uganda.
  • Identifies and coordinates the local, regional, continental, global interface for opportunities to impact poverty reduction and to foster strategic institutional linkages, alliances and networks that enhance sharing, learning and collaboration in the womens movement
  • Provides strategic guidance on how to achieve long term impact and sustainable for Women in Uganda
  • Adopts a "thought leadership" attitude that leads organised researches and analyses to develop a comprehensive understanding of the place oi womens rights in Ugandan society
  • Mobilises stakeholders by providing them with research capacity, campaigning skills, creating spaces for engagement, supporting the development of evidence on the ground and building active citizens in the women rights agenda
  • Ensures that Oxfam's program quality standards and practices are deliberate and specific on Women's rights indicators.
  • Supports Oxfam partnership selection process and builds partners’ and stakeholders‘ capacity to achieve partner led approaches for sustainable change and engages other existing women rights movements and organisations to promote the agenda for Women's Rights in Uganda
  • As a member of the CMT provides strategic advice and ensures that the women's rights agenda is consciously embedded in all of Oxfam's programme and operational decisions.
  • Represents Oxfam internally and externally on all issues related-to-Women rights programming .

What we are looking for
The person we are looking for will have a Master's degree with a focus in Gender studies/Women Rights and/or any other related discipline from a recognised university, at least 5 years practical experience and knowledge in implementing women's rights programs and initiatives, in both development and humanitarian program operations, developing advocacy and campaign strategies, working with networks, coalitions and a partnerships, 5 training/facilitation, good understanding of donor funding environment and financial management, project management & skills and experience in using participatory tools and methodologies. S/he should be strongly commitment to gender equality and social justice.
