Over the years, CRS has expanded its programming to also address development needs in western, central and eastern Uganda. CRS‘ projects in Uganda currently include agriculture. Job Summary
As part of a growing agriculture/value chain portfolio, CRS Uganda is in the processes of hiring a Coffee Technical Coordinator (CTC), who will work with Household Economic Strengthening, livelihood and farmer2farmer teams. He will engage directly with the Coffee Specialists at partner level as well CRS staff. He will oversee the designing and implementation of the Coffee Value chain model contributing towards the economic strengthening of OVC households. Working in close collaboration with HRNS, he is expected to build capacity of the CRS staff, and partners in improved coffee production, value addition market linkages and coffee-enterprise development. This capacity will cascade down to the household through the SILC and Youth groups. The CTC will also ensure that monitoring and evaluation tools for the Value Chain are developed, integrated at SOCY level and administered.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Promote and ensure that the program make optimal use of economic development models and frameworks to support vulnerable communities improve their household incomes and contribute to well-being of children, youth and transformation of families and communities
  • Provide vision and leadership to effectively develop, promote, integrate and expand the coffee strategy within the country portfolio, specifically in the SOCY project;
  •  Oversee the pilot and up scaling of the coffee value chain development models in the consortium and provide timely and detailed feedback in improve implementation;
  • Develop project specific work plans, target setting, technical reports, detailed implementation plans, quarterly and annual reports schedule based on project agreements and contractual obligations;
  • Monitor the quality of the producer organizations (PO) through regular field visit and technical assistance to partners on site;
  •  Analyze coffee household data to support program decision—making and design creative solutions for capacity development;
  • Ensure full integration of activities within the different result areas and cross fertilization within the county programs while identifying opportunities for the producers, especially the youth groups;
  • Contribute towards the learning agenda and up scaling of good practices in the coffee value chain
  • Support SOCY MEL structures in program review and planning activities and strengthen the Monitoring and Evaluation systems in compliance with consortium requirements;
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with Local Government officials and line departments, soliciting their participation in different activities where appropriate;
  • Coiled and disseminate tools, resources and useful practices to SOCY SILC staff and sub- grantees;
  •  Provide support on technical initiatives, including performing literature searches, investigating key issues, and contributing to technical activities as required.
  • Represent CRS and SOCY in technical working group, at conferences, events, and other tank forces dealing with coffee, participate in the regional networking initiatives for coffee practitioners.
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of success stories, how-to guides, tools, resources and practices useful to SGCY project work and the country program;

Key Working Relationships:
Internal to CRS: All Country Program staff, TAs in the Economic Strengthening Working Group, SOCY Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning Director, (IRS East Africa Regional Technical Advisor for Livelihoods, other CRS Uganda microfinance staff and other microfinance project staff at SOCY partner level.
External to CRS: HRNS, Peer organizations, partners and Government.

Qualifications/skills/Experience

  • Strong knowledge of the stakeholders in the agricultural/Coffee sector
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and network skills
  • Demonstrated competency in developing and implementing effective agriculture strategies,
  • Demonstrated ability to nature and/or build effective partnerships with different partners
  • Computer literate with additional expertise in statistical or other similar software is desirable
  • Use of1CT in value chains
  • Ability to organize farmers into business entities, including linking them to markets
  • MA in Crop Science, agriculture, specializing in coffee or a related field, or equivalent thorough experience in value chain development
  • Minimum of five years’ field experience in value chain development, specifically coffee, market models and Producer organization development.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  •  Excellent computer skills, specifically in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple demands
  •  Responsive and able to draw from diverse resources available.
  •  Excellent teamwork abilities and interpersonal skills.
  •  Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% of work time.
