Job Title: Deputy Head of East Africa (focus on Finance, Operations, Security, and HR) based in Kampala or Nairobi .

Saferworld is as independent non-governmental organization that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote cooperative approaches to security. We work with civil society, governments and international organisations to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research, and policy development, and through supporting the actions of others.

The Deputy Head of East Africa supports the Head of the region in overseeing the delivery of the saferworld country programmes in East Africa and providing strategic leadership.

In rapidly evolving country programmes, the post-holder will be responsible for the oversight and support of country programme operations, including compliance, opening of new offices, adaptation, the operationalization of new projects and bridging support to country offices, working closely with the Director of HR/ Operations and the country directors/ managers. A particular focus will be the oversight of the financial performance of the country programmes and cost recovery, working closely with Country Directors/ Managers, the Director of Finance and the HEA.

As part of the regional management structure, the post holder is expected to contribute actively to the global organizational strategy, priorities and policies, and to also contribute to the development of broader regional interests.

The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in business administration as well as an accounting qualification (CCAB/ ACCA or similar) S/he will also have significant senior management experience in NGO operations. Experience of budget development and financial performance management as well as in the development of global operational strategies is key.
