Program Description Stromme Foundation East Africa (SFEA) is the Eastern Africa regional office for the Norwegian based international development organization, Stromme Foundation (SF). SF is currently operating in thirteen (13) countries located in the regions of Asia, South America, West Africa and East Africa. SF in East Africa works in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and South Sudan. its vision is: ‘a world free from poverty’ and Mission is to eradicate poverty through providing opportunities and partnerships to support the poor to cross the poverty line through Education and Livelihoods interventions in Eastern Africa.

Position: Livelihoods Officer
Reporting to: livelihoods manager
Duty station: Kampala Uganda

Stromme Foundation East Africa seeks to recruit a Livelihoods Officer who will be based at the regional office in Kampala to assist in strengthening its livelihoods activities. The Livelihoods Officer will report to the Livelihoods Manager. She/he will be responsible for the development. Coordination. Monitoring. Promotion, development and growth of SF"s livelihoods activities (these include but not limited to the following: Community Managed Microfinance (CMMF). Food Security, Life skills training. Business development and other credit plus activities) and capacity building interventions of SFEA partners. She/he is required to provide technical guidance and advice to the farmers plus supervision and monitoring livelihoods activities in the region. He is also responsible for the ensuring synergy by systematically integrating Livelihoods and other sub-programs; in particular Education and Microfinance. The Livelihoods officer assists in identifying potential partners and in engaging partners, appraising such partners for funding, provides capacity building support and ensuring development of a Rights Based Approach, Results Based Management and credit
- plus.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Promotion/sensitization, designing and initiation of formation of savings and credit / Self Help Groups
  • Conducting of training needs assessment of partners and developing and organizing apocopate training tor the partner staff. Of much importance will also be training in pro-poor Business Development Services, Food security. Clustering of old CMMF groups. lite skills plus others as deemed relevant
  • Assist in preparation of livelihood proposals
  • Actively engage in identifying, developing and strengthening local Community Based Organizations
  • Facilitate assessment of the needs of local partners and develop an institutional development I capacity building strategy and plan with the aim of maximizing impact on poverty
  • Provide technical and professional advice to partner organizations and enhance them to build up capacity through the organizing of relevant capacity building seminars and workshops. As well as follow up of action plans that have been agreed upon during the training workshops
  • Oversee baseline data household surveys
  • Timely monitoring and evaluation and prepare periodic reports,
  • Manage MIS of partner organizations (PO) and ensuring that all partners have updated their MIS

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • A Degree or its equivalent in Agriculture, agribusiness, development studies, business field, or any other related field.
  • Excellent track-record in project management
  • Must have a minimum of three years documented working experience in training savings and credit groups, business development skills, Food security or related fields
  • Technical Training qualifications in the area of agriculture, food security, livelihood, Sustainable Agricultural Agribusiness, Fisheries or other related field is an added advantage
  • Have a dynamic personality with a sense of initiative, good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with principles and practice of savings-led microfinance
  • Strong data analysis background and familiar with VSLA MIS
  • Strong experience of supervising implementing partners
  • Experienced TOT trainer
  • Experience working with poor communities on development matters, advocacy and governance, Gender mainstreaming and children rights is added advantage
  • Experience with the use of mobiles in groups is an added advantage
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Fluency in English language and Swahili is an added advantage.
  • She/he needs to identify with Christian values
  • Willingness to regularly travel to the field
