Mengo Hospital is the oldest Hospital in Uganda having been founded in 1897. lt is a Christian, Missionary founded, Private Not-For—Profit (PNFP) Hospital. It is categorized as a General Hospital by government, but operationally it is a referral Hospital. it has offered treatment to tens of thousands of people over the years. The once Missionary Hospital simple structures, developed into the present-day 300-bed hospital, spread over 22 acres of land at Namirembe Hill. Mengo Hospital seeks to recruit a qualified person to fill the following vacant position:

Job title: Procurement Manager.
Reports to: medical director
supervisees: Procurement officer
Location: Kampala.

Job Summary: To head and manage the procurement and disposal function of the Mengo Hospital (MH) and maintain effective and efficient functioning of all procurement and disposal activities to ensure organizational objectives are met while obtaining demonstratable value in accordance with established MH policies and procedures. To provide technical assistance and support MH Management, staff and the Tender and other committees on all procurement and disposal matters and give the necessary professional support to all MH departments, sections and projects in regards to procurement and disposal activities. To lead and contribute the development and implementation of organizational strategies and procurement policies and good practices.

Qualifications and experience: An Honours degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management OR Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Medicine , Pharmacy, Engineering or any business or relevant related field with a Postgraduate Diploma in Procurement from a recognized university

Must have professional qualification in procurement from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Management of United Kingdom or its equivalent from a from a recognized institute with a valid/up to date membership; Membership to fie Institute of Procurement Professionals of Uganda (lPPU) is an added advantage.

A Master's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related discipline shall be an added advantage; Working experience of at least 8 years in a procurement unit involved in day to day management of procurement activities with a minimum of 3 years’ experience as head of a procurement function and in a fairly large reputable organization.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Should have knowledge of, and experience with the procurement environment in Uganda. V
  • Should demonstrate experience in planning and timely implementing procurements; .
  • Must have a track record of high professional integrity and ethical conduct and not corruptible.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, good communication skills and be self-driven
  • Should be flexible, able to work under pressure and able to respond effectively to unforeseen workplace circumstances;
  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skills essential;
  • Must be Computer literate with experience and working knowledge in at least Word, Spreadsheets and PowerPoint
  • Must demonstrate leadership skills.
