Our History
Agency for Cooperation in Research and Development Uganda (ACORD Uganda) is a National Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that has worked in Uganda since 1979 initially as an implementing arm of ACORD International.

In 2019, ACORD Uganda was formally registered as an indigenous Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with the National Bureau for NGOs in Uganda. ACORD Uganda aspires to contribute towards Uganda’s Development, Humanitarian response and to promote social justice for vulnerable communities and groups particularly the poor, children, youth and women.

ACORD Uganda works with government, communities, civil society organizations and the private sector to positively impact on the lives of vulnerable groups in Uganda. We promote active and meaningful participation of target groups and communities and draw on research and advocacy to change the underlying drivers of inequalities that sustain multiple forms of vulnerabilities in communities where we work at local and national levels.

Vision and Mission
ACORD Uganda believes that target groups and communities including men and women have a duty to improve the societies in which they live by being active agents of change.

Our Vision
A society in which all people are able to achieve their rights and fulfil their responsibilities.

Our Mission
We work in partnership with marginalised communities and those who have been denied their rights to analyse their situation and jointly find sustainable solutions to improve their wellbeing.

We contribute to health, well-being and access to universal health care. Wellbeing and access to quality health services is critical for human capital development and economic productivity at individual, family and national levels.

ACORD Uganda contributes to empowering target groups and communities to take actions in preventing ill-health and promote health and wellbeing by increasing access to quality health services, to enable people lead healthy and productive lives.

We build sustainable livelihoods, increase climate change resilience and enhance natural resource management. ACORD Uganda designs, implements and scales-up effective and sustainable livelihood interventions among vulnerable groups and communities in target areas for both Ugandan nationals and refugees. .

Our approach to building sustainable livelihoods, increasing resilience to climate change and enhancing capacity for natural resource management involves identifying and building on inherent coping strategies at individual, family and community levels.
