IRC has a country office in Kampala, a regional office in Kitgum (and Lamwo) Moroto and West Nile. Given the conflict outbreak in South Sudan, IRC re-opened the Yumbe Field site office to support refugees being settled in Bidibidi, Imvepi and Omugo refugee settlement in Yumbe and Arua Districts respectively.
IRC is currently looking for enthusiastic, hardworking and self-motivated persons to join our team to support the effective delivery of the organization’s mission.

Duration: 9 months, contingent on donor funding


Job Overview/Summary:
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible to ensure laboratory services of all sites, are well planned for, provided with necessary resources and implemented in accordance with set policies and standards


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Carry out phlebotomy.
  • Keep accurate records of tests.
  • Carry out laboratory tests and produce uncompromised results.
  • Participate in development and implementation of laboratory standard of procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in Report writing by compiling reports on tests carried out at the clinic site.
  • Receive, collect, transport, process and analyze lab experiments.
  • Carry out quality control of lab reagents and equipment’s.
  • Assist in drawing-up lab plans and budgets.
  • Mentor the laboratory assistant, and any other trainees.
  • Attend monthly Lab meetings and any other meetings that may arise.
  • Monitor expenditure against budgets and ensure adherence.
  • Promote the vision, mission and the values of IRC as expressed in the policies, regulations & guidelines of the Organization.
  • Ensure health, safety, and security in your area of operation.
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
    Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of IRC acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty.


Note:
- The role of the Laboratory Technician cannot be limited to the specific duties and tasks detailed herein. The success of the IRC’s humanitarian mission is the highest priority and all issues which arise must be addressed. Accordingly. Therefore, s/he will be required to manage all unforeseen issues and circumstances and remain Flexible to perform any other duties, as and when required.

Requirements / qualifications:
Education:

  • Diploma in Lab. Technology

Other Job-related Training Required

  • Equipment maintenance
  • Stock control


Minimum Experience:

  • At least two years’ experience in a similar position.

Key Result Areas

  • Laboratory services at the site well managed.
  • Laboratory investigations on clients carried out.
  • Health education to IRC clients given.
  • Laboratory budget drawn and implemented.
  • Quality control of Laboratory reagents and equipment maintained.
  • Laboratory reagents and supplies purchased.

  • HIV/AIDS, National guidelines, Lab investigations and procedures.
