Windle International Uganda (WIU) formerly Windle Trust Uganda is a registered INGO whose mission is to promote peace and development in communities through provision and coordination of Education and training for Refugees and people affected by conflict.
Since 1996, Windle International Uganda has provided access to University, Secondary, and Primary Education, as well as Early Childhood Learning and Vocational Training for Refugees and the host population.
In partnership with UNHCR and the Government of Uganda, WIU is implementing Education Projects for refugees and host communities in Refugee settlements across Uganda and seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant position for its growing operations:
Position: DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS
Location: Kampala with frequent travel to all Field locations
Job Purpose:
The Director of Programs (DOP) will be responsible for overseeing the timely and impeccable implementation of all WIU Projects within the terms of partnership Agreements and project documents. He/ She will also actively participate in developing fundraising strategies and identifying potential donors.
The DOP will advise the Board of Trustees on all Program- related issues, i.e.; Scholarships, Education Management and other Education projects;
The Director of Programs will supervise the Scholarship Manager, The Manager- Education Management and Managers/ Project Coordinators of auxiliary projects .

Responsibilities:
• Strategy Program Development and Management:
• Develop and oversee the implementation of an annual Programs Strategy
• Engage and regularly update donors and stake holders on program implementations
Planning and Budgeting
• Ensure submission of standard project reports to donors and other stake holders
• Monitor Field activities to ensure that they are in line with donor and key stakeholder requirements
• Ensure that all implemented activities are relevant to the mission and vision of the organization
Networking:
• Support and connect with strategic partners on various activities or projects that are in line with WIU’s vision, mission and values and long term strategies
• Represent WIU in other NGO and INGO forums, meetings and events
Fundraising:
• Contribute to fundraising efforts with the highest ethical standards
• Identify fundraising strategies that benefit and complement the mission and vision of WIU and bring these to the attention of the Executive
• Participate and contribute to the identification of program funding gaps, priorities and opportunities
• Participate and contribute to the development of funding concepts and proposals
Governance and Board Relations:
• Prepare and present Quarterly Program reports to the Board Program Committee
• Participate in the induction of Board members in their Program Management role
• Provide periodic input and advice at board meetings on matters relating to Programs
• Oversee the implementation of Board Program Committee resolutions


Necessary Skills:
• Excellent communication skills, in written and verbal English, highly impactful influencing and persuasion skills
• Ability to adjust to constantly changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through
• Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; able to understand complex issues and translate them into simple, workable actions and plans
• Ability to think strategically; work creatively, effectively and in an innovative manner
• Excellent presentation and report-writing skills
Knowledge:
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience of development programs, advocacy and campaigning and humanitarian programmes
• Knowledge of capacity building, learning and development activities and understanding of how to create learning and sharing environment with a strong knowledge management philosophy
• Politically astute, with a good understanding of key external organizations, how they operate and make decisions, and the country development context
Knowledge of, and experience in working with donors and partners


Qualifications and Experience:
• A Master’s Degree in Education Management or any related field from a reputable education institution
• At least 8 years of experience in Education Management of an NGO or INGO
• Influencing experience and ability to develop networks and build alliances
• Experience of promoting and providing Education for Refugees and People affected by conflict
• Experience managing a complex influencing framework incorporating development programming, campaigning and advocacy, humanitarian and other interventions
