Job Title: Lab Technologist-Immunology

Job summary:
The position has been created to fulfil molecularbiology and immunology sample processing and testing needs under the Trypanofien study and the POPVAC study. The TrypanoGen study is aimed at undertaking human genetic studies regarding susceptibility to schistosome infection through identifying high shedders by identifying high worm burden individuals and subsequently genotyping them for genetic markers predisposing to high worm burden. This will be done in collaboration with the Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3A) TrypanoGEN+ consortium; which aims to determine the human genetic determinants of schistosomiasis and sleeping sickness.The POPVAC study is aimed at understanding population differences in vaccine responses in order to identify strategies through which vaccine effectiveness can be optimized for the low-income, tropical settings where they are especially needed..

Roles and responsibilities:
Reception, processing and archiving of study samples, Performing immunological and molecular assays on stored samples. These include detecting the plasmal serum circulating anodic antigen of schistosomes, DNA extraction from blood and stool, PCR assays, ELlSAs, ELlSpots, whole blood stimulation assays, and preparing samples for shipping, Adhering to and implementing Good Clinical Laboratory Practices in the lab. These include regular cleaning and disinfecting equipment, tracking equipment servicing requirements, monitoring temperatures and liquid nitrogen levels, backing up data, running equipment performance quality controls.


Academic and professional qualifitions
Essential; Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences
Desirable: Training in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice

Work Experience
At least two years-experience working in a research setting, Knowledge of immunological laboratory techniques such as PBMC isolation and cryopresenration, flow cytometry, whole blood assays, Enzyme Linked lmmunosorbent"Assays and molecular assays such as DNA extraction and PCR, Good writing skills, Willingness to work out of office hours when need arises
