Senior Partnership & Grants Coordinator (PGC)

Duty Station: Kampala,

Purpose (Brief Introduction)
War Child (WC) is an independent and impartial international non-governmental organization investing in a peaceful future for children and young people affected by armed conflict. WC works in 14 countries to improve the resilience and well-being of children, delivering vital child protection, education and psychosocial support.

War Child has been operating in Uganda since 2004, initially in response to the LRA conflict. Towards the end of 2016, WC programming focused on responding to the large influx of South Sudanese refugees into Uganda (West Nile). WH started operating this year in refugee settlements in Western Uganda to respond to the needs of the DRC refugees.

Purpose of the position.
The Senior Partnership & Grants Coordinator will support in developing partnerships, identifying funding opportunities, and coordinating the proposal development process and submission. (S)He will be coordinating partnership assessments, updating the WC online platform for grants management, taking the lead in drafting concept notes and proposals and supporting the approval process.

Objective of the job
The Senior Partnership & Grants Coordinator will be responsible for;
1. Donor engagement/portfolio coordination, strengthening and maintenance.
1. Conducting research on the funding opportunities relevant to the WC country programme.
1. Coordinate the process of the concept note and proposal development.
1. Update the WC online platform for grants management
1. Take a lead in partnership assessment

Position in the organisation and essential functional relations
The Senior Partnership & Grants Coordinator reports to the Manager of Programme Development and Quality and collaborates closely with the Program Development advisors, Implementation Manager, finance and logistic managers, regional partnership managers and WC 2PG team. The position will be based in Kampala with travels to the field as and when required.

Roles & Responsibilities plus key result areas
1. Portfolio coordination, strengthening and maintenance.
• • Update country-specific program funding strategy with the WC Uganda team.
• • Maintain mapping of key humanitarian actors, especially those relevant to War Child Alliance programming.
• • Funding opportunity identification through research and networking, diversifying the range of contacts and opportunities with the help of country teams.
• • Contribute to strategic thinking on resource mobilisation/fundraising in cooperation with the team and ensure this feeds into global, regional and country strategies and guidance.
• • Maintain WC online platform on grants management through feeding information timely.

1. Proposal Writing and Fund Raising
• • In collaboration with the Team, lead the development of concept notes, project proposals and budget;
• • Support War on grant management including
- donor policies and project administration/reporting requirements;
- have the necessary templates, tools, etc. to comply with these;
• • Liaise with regional and head office in reviewing and approval process of donor and partner contracts, proposals and reports.

1. Partnerships Development and Management
• • Take a lead in the due diligence and partnership assessments
• • Support drafting MoU and teaming agreements
• • Lead country office localisation strategy

1. Representation and networking
• • Participate in and contribute to relevant internal networks, such as partnerships and fundraising;
• Represent WC in relevant resource mobilisation / fund-raising fora, including relevant donor meetings as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
• Master’s degree in International Business & Development, or equivalent demonstrable experience in proposal development and management for social work and community development projects.
• Minimum of 5 years of work experience in the area of fundraising with institutional donors and grant and partnership management;
• Knowledge of and experience in humanitarian programmes in Uganda;
• Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in partnerships with at least 2 of the following donors: European Commission, ECHO, DFID, USG (including USAID) and UN agencies; additional experience with other donors such as SIDA, SDC and GAC is desirable;
• Familiarity with key actors and demonstrated experience in developing, building and maintain strategic partnerships with these actors;
• Proven track record in design and writing of winning grant proposals responding to grant solicitations in a limited amount of time; experience with technical programs in child protection, education and or MHPSS an advantage;
• A good understanding of humanitarian principles and established international standards in humanitarian settings for refugees and other marginalised populations, especially children and youth;
• Relationship-building, diplomacy and networking skills.
• Excellent English writing ability and verbal skills for project proposals, reports and communications
• Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and empathy
• Ability to work well under pressure with diverse teams from all backgrounds and level
• Proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision
