Job Description

PATH with support from UNITAID will implement two studies focused on “feasibility and acceptability of provider-driven and self-testing of COVID-19 using antigen rapid diagnostic tests (Ag-RDTs” and “Evaluation and Improve Optimization of existing Digital Tools to support COVID-19 response in Uganda”.
The research project seeks to provide evidence to support countries in responding and preparedness for COVID 19; and support World Health Organization to have evidence for further normative guidance. The two studies will be implemented in three districts of Luwero, Kampala and Wakiso. The implementation will be a collaborative approach of working Ministry of Health /Uganda National Laboratory Health services and other partners to conduct study within ethical standards of doing research studies among human subjects.
These study protocols are in final stages of approval from the WHO Research ethics committee, Mildmay research Ethics committees and Uganda National Council of Science and technology (UNCST), after obtaining the approval we shall start implementation of the studies through a robust data collection. We therefore need 3 research assistants to support data collection in Kampala, Wakiso and Luwero district from 1st November 2022 to 28th February 2023.

Objective of the assignment:
The broad goal of the assignment is to participate in implementation of the studies through supporting data collection, transcribing and cleaning of data for the two studies under the 3 ACP project.

Specific activities:
The research assistant will work closely with PATH 3ACP Project team and study consultant to;
• Participate in all trainings and orientation including online training in ethical and responsible
• Participate in project research meetings to ensure alignment of the project implementation goals
• Collect, transcribe, and clean data, for the two
• Be physically present at assigned implementing sites whenever required to (in Kampala, Wakiso and Luwero districts).
• Recruit participants including screening for eligibility to participate in the studies.
• Data collection both qualitative and quantitative data according to good research practices
• Review and check data quality, clean it, and ensure completeness; and report such data in line with study protocols and good clinical practice.
• Communicate regularly with Site PIs to assure effective implementation of the studies activities including sufficient enrolment and implementation according to protocol, SOPs, ethics, and other regulatory approvals.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Deliverables:
1. Qualitative data collected (audio recorded), transcribed and transcripts shared with the Site PI to help assess the feasibility and usability of implementing professional use and self-administered COVID-19 Antigen RDTs.
2. Quantitative data collected and uploaded into the ODK system to help assessing the feasibility and usability of implementing professional use and self-administered COVID-19 Antigen RDTs
3. Qualitative data collected (audio recorded), transcribed and transcripts shared with the Site PI to be able to evaluate the existing Digital Tools to support COVID-19 response.
4. Quantitative data collected and uploaded into the ODK system to support the evaluation of the existing Digital Tools to support COVID-19 response
5. Clients well consented for the study and signed consent forms secured well.
6. Final activity report

Institutional Arrangement:
1. The selected Research Assistant will work directly with the PATH 3ACP project team.
2. The Research Assistant is expected to act as a strong liaison between PATH and the study participants and Health facility service providers including peer supporters and VHTs
3. Mobilize trainees to attend the scheduled training
4. Provide conference facilities for the training
5. Cater for the trainees’ welfare during the course of the training
6. Provide training needs assessment for private providers

Duration of performance
1. The study will be implemented during the financial year 2022 and data collection is expected to be done within 90 days starting 1st November 2022 to 28th February ,2023.

Required Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in humanities or health related field.
• Valid certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
• Evidence of participating in research studies or surveys that require attention to details and research ethics sensitivity
• Proficiency in use of Microsoft suite packages including word, excel, and other electrotonic communication tools, and electronic data collection tools like Open data kits (ODK) among others.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and problem-solving skills.
• Fluent in speaking and reading English ¬and Luganda.
Candidates must have legal authorization to work in Uganda.
