Role Summary
The DIU board is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization;
● Determines how DIU carries out its mission over long & short-range planning
● Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight
● Recruits, orients, and develops board members
● Hires and evaluates the performance of the DIU Team lead
● Evaluates organization performance in achieving its mission
● Establishes policies for the effective management of the organization

General Expectation
This role works with other Board members to undertake the responsibility of ensuring DIU is effective and financially sound. The successful member will be joining a diverse group of people. He/she brings a wide and diverse range of life experience, work, wisdom and wealth to the organisations.

Data Intuition - Uganda (DIU) is a fast-paced growing Research, Analytics and Advisory/Policy (RSA) Not-for-profit Organization. Since 2016, we have been generating and disseminating data-driven knowledge and high quality evidence towards empowering people, organizations, businesses and governments to transform and positively impact lives everywhere.
Data Intuition – Uganda is registered as a charity in Uganda under Reg No. 80020003313347 | BRS-INCC-6-21/41259 and our core team is a consortium of RSA experts and professionals.
Since its wake in 2020, the COVID19 global scourge has propelled our creativity, resilience, humility and problem resolving acumen. We have remained on a growth trajectory amidst the pandemic. We will continue to dedicate time and resources into a rigorous Research, Analytics and Advisory/Policy (DIU RSA model), meticulously empowering partners and creating a data-driven way of thinking.
DIU delivers high quality data and knowledge to inform and influence real time decisions and discussions with sectoral focus on education, agriculture and nutrition, health, financial inclusion, governance and leadership, water sanitation and hygiene, social protection, small and medium enterprises, and general community development.
Our sectoral focus is selectively mapped in alignment with 9 key Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. The DIU RSA model and approach to work, is diligently crafted towards contributing to the greater global need of narrowing existing gaps within the SDGs indicator metrics measurement models, on accessing quality data and knowledge.
We are deeply aware of the fast-paced changes in global technology, approaches and methodologies that required to create global change, we therefore not only provide the most precise RSA knowledge and insights, but also engage our partners in a strategy that empowers them to continue driving and influencing the economic development, society and humanity at large.
As part of our continued fast paced growth, DIU has planned and designed a very ambitious strategic plan for the year 2022. We are looking for highly motivated and results oriented individuals to join our Board, who will oversee the realization of the strategic goals and overall organization growth.

Specific Expectations
• Ensure sufficient funds are being raised and spent in a responsible manner.
• Participate in creating or approving a budget that all board members fully understand and are able to review
• Ensuring that the organization has adequate insurance and an annual audit (often required by funders)
• Works with other Board members in ensuring the organization (DIU) is well managed.
• Ensure DIU’s management team is supported to advance organization work and is held accountable regularly
• Support the DIU Board and specific staff in raising funds for the organization
• Amplifying the organization’s identity and supporting DIU’s mission
• Where possible, make personally meaningful donations to the Organization.

Personal Demands
• Create time and the willingness to make philosophical or emotional commitments to DIU
• Promote belief in the organization mission, and support the vision behind that mission
• Attend Board and committee meetings and actively participate in fundraising activities
• Strong desire to serve and be willing to share their ideas, experiences, feelings, insights, fears, questions, etc.
• Willing to read the organizations materials, ask questions, think things through, make suggestions
• Our Board member is a facilitator for the organization.
• Providing support to staff and other Board members.
• Open to working with other people, respecting new ideas, and taking reasonable risk roles
• Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve DIU’s mission
• Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing
• Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements
• Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
• Disclose conflicts of interest and maintain confidentiality

Ideal Candidate
• Executive level experience in a public, private or not-for-profit organization
• Strong knowledge of trending technology, research methods, analytics and policy is added advantage
• Strong social and capital network inside and outside their country of origin
• Volunteer or professional experience in fundraising, organisational development and strategic planning
• Organizing/advocacy for strong partnerships, non-profit management, or local government
• Persuasive and adaptability to diverse environments
• Intercultural and global awareness skills
