JOB DETAILS:
Job Description
• Development and delivery of the detailed Environment and Biodiversity site(s) annual work programs in accordance with the overall department objectives.
• Identify training and development needs as well as roll out a program to address such needs for the Environment and Biodiversity team and site organization. The focus shall be on developing competencies through dedicated coaching of individuals to ensure readiness for project execution (construction & pre-commissioning) and latterly for operations phase.
• Provide site based advice and specialist knowledge to project teams (including engineering, drilling, construction and operations teams) on Environment Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) requirements and application of Good International Industry Practice on all aspects of project development.
• Supervise the activities of the Environment and Biodiversity site team consisting of Environment Biodiversity Field Officer (EBFOs) and Environment Compliance Officers (ECOs).
• Coordination of site inspection activities including internal audits, regulatory inspections and third-party verification activities.
• Development and ongoing management of the site environment and biodiversity monitoring program including the collection of monitoring data for reporting to regulators, TEPU, Total Group and third parties. This shall include biodiversity, groundwater, surface water, noise, air and soils.
• Promote and raise awareness at site level the objectives and actions resulting from the IBLAC and Regional Cumulative Impacts Management Forum.
• Provide site support to the Biodiversity Coordinator to ensure effective implementation of BESAP and BESMPs for contractor activities and in particular provide the required support to ensure effective roll out of Net Gain Program and other biodiversity programs as required.
• Provide site support to the Environment Operations Coordinator to ensure effective implementation of ESMPs by contractors and other operations support such as spill response planning, site inspection activities, monitoring activities etc as required.
• Development of training packages on various environmental and biodiversity issues both internal and external for site organizations
• Cooperate with other departments located in the field developing new compliance strategies and implementing environmental and biodiversity compliance requirements.
• Assist with the preparation and presentation of materials on environmental compliance and biodiversity management for stakeholder consultation meetings.
• Participate in local awareness and education activities about Environmental and Biodiversity Management with Project teams on site, local authorities and local communities.
• Assist in implementation of work programme for Company-wide ISO14001 Certification.
• Lead in the implementation and ongoing montoring of site restoration activities in compliance with relevant standards.
• Provide expertise and advice on follow up of environmental incidents.
• Act as the COMPANY site focal point for liaison with District Environment Officers for Buliisa and Nwoya.
• Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance with all relevant Statutory and Company H3SE standards.
• Network with the other senior specialists both inside and outside the region in sharing best practice and lessons learned.
• Support development and implementation of the department work program and budgets with respect to site based environment and biodiversity related activities.
• Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance with all relevant statutory permits, licenses, authorizations and consents as well as company H3SE standards.
• Ensure appropriate and consistent monitoring and reporting processes are implemented. These processes shall be auditable.
• Coordinate development of appropriate tools for auditing, inspection, monitoring and reporting at site.
• Act as affiliate's site based Oil Spill Preparedness and Response coordinator including development of drills, maintenance of equipment and training of site personnel.

Candidate Profile
• Bachelor’s degree in ecology and/or science based discipline.
• Minimum 8 years field or site based experience in managing environment and biodiversity related issues and/or wildlife management in an operational setting (preferably oil and gas or other similar industry)
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of Ugandan Environmental Legislation and IFC Performance Standards.
• Good understanding of ISO14001 EMS, preferably with experience of system auditing and implementation.
• Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to develop and maintain good relations with a wide range of Stakeholders including local communities, industry, NGOs and other international organisations.
• Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Negotiation, conflict management skills.
• Good report writing and analytical skills.
