Future Options Consulting Ltd has been retained by an NGO is based in Mbale to recruit an exceptional individual to the team as the Executive Director. The NGO is dedicated to mitigating and adapting to climate change and alleviation of poverty through the planting of trees. They have surpassed the target of distributing 15-million trees free of charge to smallholder farmers. They aspire to plant 25 million trees by 2025 in the Mount Elgon region of Uganda.

Executive Director

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership to the NGO. S/he will work closely with the Chair and the Board of Directors to ensure the successful implementation of the organization's mission, strategic direction and deliverables. The candidate should be passionate about the environment and making a difference to the wellbeing of rural communities .

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director shall be responsible for:
• Providing inspirational leadership for the NGO staff to drive results against agreed performance targets.
• Providing support to the Board in the delivery of the programme and maintaining financial oversight, performance of the programme and compliance with Ugandan laws.
• Build capability and capacity of the organization to ensure that as funds become available it can match the increasing targets.
• Take responsibility for the annual organizational planning and budgeting
• Maintain performance against the annual budget and targets set by the Board.
• Develop and oversee the monitoring and evaluation systems.
• Initiate, support and facilitate the organization's marketing and communications strategy.
• Establish and nurture beneficial relationships with funders, key stakeholders and other climate change and tree planting programmes Identify funding gaps within the programme, advise on and support development plans that require resources to present to the Board
• Establish and maintain strong expertise in tree planting/ agroforestry programmes and stay up to date with relevant developments in the sector including through participating in local, national and international networks.
• Host and attend high level strategic visits, meeting and relevant international conferences on behalf of the NGO.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
• First degree or a Master's degree in forestry, agriculture or environmental studies.
• An MBA or substantial professional qualification in a business related discipline.

JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
• At least 3 years' experience in implementing donor projects.
• Substantial senior management experience in a reputable International Organization (preferably an NGO) reporting to the Board of Directors or Senior Management.
• Experience in developing and implementing programme monitoring and evaluation systems.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to build and motivate a team.
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking and advocacy skills.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills in English.
