Gulu Women’s Economic Development and Globalization (GWED-G) is a women’s rights organization
Working in northern Uganda promoting activities aligned to human rights and gender equality, livelihood and food security, peace building and transitional justice programs, youth’s empowerment, health and nutrition, and advocacy on gender bills and Law.
GWED-G is part of the consortia implementing the USAID Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in the Acholi region of Northern Uganda (USAID RHITES-N, Acholi), a five-year Activity that was awarded on 15th December 2017 to a consortium of partners led by University Research Corporation LLC (URC). The Activity aims to increase access to and utilization of health services; by strengthening the capacity of district health systems to apply proven best practices in the areas of HIV, TB, Malaria, Maternal, Newborn, Child health, Reproductive Health, Family Planning, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. The Activity works to improve the availability of high quality services and the demand for these services by supporting the adoption of healthy behaviors at individual and community levels. It is being implemented in eight districts of Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Lamwo, Omoro, Nwoya and Pader.
GWED-G is seeking dynamic qualified individual(s) to fill the following position as part of its team.
POSITION: DISTRICT COMMUNITY COORDINATOR – 3 positions
DUTY STATION: NWOYA AND AGAGO DISTRICT(s)
REPORTS TO: TECHNICAL ADVISOR
Job Summary:
The overall purpose of this job is to increase utilization of health services by strengthening systems, improving quality of services, increasing availability of access to and demand for quality services, and supporting the health sector to sustain higher service utilization rates. GWED-G components through this program will support the program in the eight (8) Acholi districts of Northern Uganda to achieve community levels targets, Leading gender conscious health education and training seminars; engaging adolescents, girls, youths and young people and women in target districts through their context-specific knowledge and network; engaging in specific community mobilization efforts; and mapping the most at-risk populations and working with them to adopt healthy behaviours. Leading youth’s engagements and work with other partners to strengthen community systems and creates demand for health services. key results areas includes adoption of healthy behaviours and practices within households and communities (awareness of health seeking behaviours, reduced delays in seeking care and decreased social socio-cultural barriers), increased demand, access and availability of services round HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, Nutrition, MNCH, Reproductive Health, FP, Water and Sanitation. .

Primary duties and responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
Community
• Support Community sensitization activities to increase knowledge on health issues and service availability.
• Provision of monthly static HIV, TB, and HEP B testing and referrals and family planning services.
• Conduct Quarterly comprehensive medical camps at all 8-health centre IVs and 59 HCIIIs in Acholi Sub Region on cervical cancer and safe male circumcision.
• Conduct monthly Radio talk shows and run radio spots messages.
• Conduct Quarterly moon light testing for HIV/Aids in all the health centre IV's during events.
• Conducts trainings, conferences and workshops for information dissemination and education.
Engaging men
• Identify and engage role model men in creating awareness.
• Conduct Quarterly dialogues with Role Model Men, VHTs, Women groups and youths on SRHR, EMTCT.
• Conduct Quarterly male engaged dialogues in communities by VHTs and Role Model Men
• Mainstream Human Rights Based Approaches in Health (Equality and non-discriminations
• Promote the principles of Availability, Accessibility, Acceptability, and Quality.
Gender
• Coordinate with community structures and gender offices to prevent and refer GBV cases.
• Carry out a gender and youth analysis in the proposed areas of interventions and develop a conscious and systematic approach towards gender mainstreaming and youth inclusion into the program.
• Identify and provide evidence based information’s on gender and youths inclusion
• Support comprehensive response to GBV survivors
• Training of health workers on basic integrated GBV prevention and response
• Engage with community implementation partners who work with girls, young women and their male partners to ensure strong collaboration and coordination.
Working with youth and young people
• Conduct dialogues with youth to create awareness and link youth to existing technology platforms such as: M Health platform, Zone platform.
• Identify and equip youth health champions to implement peer led interventions such as education and outreaches.
• Mobilize youth for services using innovative strategies such as: Use technology to mobilize youth for services such Use of sports and entertainment to engage, “Kadanke”, Protect the goal, 6 or 4 tent models, activity groups for drama and dance, use fellow youth to mobilize youth.
• Participates on any coordination and departmental meetings.
Coordination
• Organize and participates at coordination meeting at regional and district levels to ensure coordination’s with partners and implementation efficiency, quarterly review meetings with sub-county authorities.
• Conduct bi annual coordination meetings with the district health teams
Monitoring, Evaluation and reporting
• Support the processes of monitoring and evaluation of the program.
• Collect data and Analyze as required, ensure that GWED-G M&E officer has updated data report
• Write monthly, quarterly and annual reports


Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher Degree in Humanities, Social sciences, Mass Communication, Public Health, or other related degree.
• Experience in working with community intervention programs; Specific hands-on knowledge and skills in Planning, designing, implementing and monitoring community programs
• Demonstrated handling of BCC interventions and hands-on experience in driving targeted SBCC campaigns, and in communication stakeholder management and social media
• At least 2 years’ relevant experience working with communities in public health communication and community development programming in a donor environment, in managing social behavior change communication campaigns, and in monitoring public health /development communication in related projects of similar scope.
• Have hands-on experience in the use of ICT in the mobilization of youth and communities for service-uptake and demand.
• Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
• Experience working with USAID programs will be an added advantage.
• Good trainer/facilitator of community structures and communities as a whole is key.
• A motivated, focused, disciplined professional, with the drive and dynamism to work under pressure with competing deadlines, and possess the ability to make an immediate impact.
• Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and result-oriented skills, and experience in managing objectives with the customer in mind.
• Good judgment, initiative, high sense of responsibility, tactful, ability to plan, organize and measure outcomes of interventions.
• Exemplary and honest, with a high level of energy and integrity, and able to work under minimum supervision.
• Flexible, innovative, with good record keeping, communication, presentation, report-writing, and interpersonal skills.
• Team player with the ability to make positive contributions.
• Able to communicate in any of the Luo languages
