Background: War Child Canada (WCC) is an international charity, with the vision of “a world where no child knows war”. War Child Canada works with war affected communities to help children reclaim their childhood through access to education, opportunities and justice with cross cutting themes of child protection and gender. War Child Canada also takes an active role in raising public awareness around the impact of war on communities and the shared responsibility to act. Currently WCC is implementing a protection and access to justice project in Palabek Refugee Settlement in Lamwo district in partnership with UN Women under two main project outcomes of, 1) Increasing access to emergency lifesaving protection, including
SGBV legal aid services for South Sudanese refugee and host community women and girls through rights based approach that promotes gender equality and women’s empowerment; and 2) Increasing refugee and host communities knowledge about and contribution to environmental protection and conservation. To fulfill this dream, War Child Canada is currently seeking for dynamic, qualified individuals to fill the following positions.
Position: Environment Protection Officer.
Duty Station: Lamwo
Contract: 5 months, with possibility of extension
Reports to: Project Manager, Protection/Access to Justice .

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Environment Protection Officer will lead the effective and successful implementation and delivery of the activities of the environment protection component of WCC protection/access to justice project in Lamwo district in accordance with the project design, targets and results. He/she will undertake needs assessment in the target population; develop and implement clear environment protection strategies and plans; and build capacity of and support community based environment protection volunteers, organizations, networks and forums.
The position holder will also facilitate and support the promotion of environmental protection issues among communities, partners and stakeholders in line with internationally and nationally accepted policies, guidelines and standards.

Knowledge and Experience:
• University degree in Environmental protection/conservation, Natural Resource Management, or related discipline.
• A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the field of environmental projection or related field.
• Good coordination, facilitation, training, mentoring and motivational skills.
• Excellent experience or understanding of participatory approaches and community mobilization.
