Background:
Busoga Forestry Company ( BFC ) is a commercial forestry plantation company and a subsidiary of Green Resources AS (GRAS) of Norway, Africa’s leading Forestation Company and a leader in East African wood processing. GRAS owns over 44,000ha of standing forest in Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda, established through its own planting activities.
BFC, under the 49-year renewable tree planting licenses, has established forest plantations on 4,610ha in Bukaleba CFR and 1,989ha in Kachung CFR in Mayuge and Dokolo Districts respectively. The company uses wood from existing and new plantations to produce high-value-added products based on the needs of its customers. BFC follows the highest corporate social & environmental standards as well as standards for responsible forest management. VACANT POSITION: Forester
JOB REF: HRBFC001
• Compiling Annual plans of operations under the guidance of the Operations Manager
• Scheduling silviculture operations, strengthening community relations
• Ensuring overall company and contractor compliance with FSC and country environmental obligations
• Manage Contractors with integrity and professionalism ensure timeous payment of contractors is made by BFC.
• Ensure that field activities are adequately supervised and performed according to the standard operating procedure.
• Report on any crop or plantation failures in different compartments, report any pests and diseases that are identified in the field.
• Protection of plantation against any illegal activities, ensuring that daily output targets are achieved.
• Submit daily and weekly report, Report any breakdowns on machinery immediately.
• Promote health and safety during activities by emphasizing that all workers wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for the appropriate tasks and maintaining the right distance from each other especially during weeding operations.
• Aiming at improving the quality of work by contractors during maintenance through constant supervision.
• Organizing the team and ensuring that minimum time is lost during working hours.
• Ensure safety of all organizations supplies, tools and equipment.
• Any other duty as assigned by management.
Key Qualities:
Knowledge
• Bachelors degree in Forestry.
• An understanding of plantation operations
• Basic Knowledge budgeting
Skills:
• Professional, credible and highly motivated,
• High integrity.
• Ability to communicate technical information to non- technical audiences
• Ability to communicate technical information to non- technical audiences
• Ability to work on one’s own initiative and work to meet challenging targets.
