Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery organization. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the district of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is based at Kalisizo in Kyotera District and Kampala.
The Program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position to efficiently execute its research and service activities. Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill a vacant position based at Rakai Health Sciences Program- Kalisizo, Kyotera district as indicated below:
POSITION: Laboratory Technologist (1 Position)
Reporting to: Laboratory Supervisor
Duty Station: RHSP Kalisizo Office
Job Brief: The Laboratory Technologist will be involved in all Laboratory procedures in the RHSP Laboratory at Kalisizo Station. He/ She will be required to conform to Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) guidelines. The RHSP laboratory does automated and/or manual assays in the fields of chemistry, molecular biology, flow cytometry, hematology, microbiology and serology
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Perform analytical work for both research and clinical management purposes.
• Receipt and processing of samples including long term archival.
• Do preventive and scheduled maintenance of equipment
• Collection of different types of samples including phlebotomy
• Write Standard Operating Procedures
• Manage laboratory logistics
• Any other official duty as may be assigned by management
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• The ideal candidate for must hold a Bachelor degree in biomedical technology, bachelor’s in medical laboratory sciences or related sciences laboratory field
• Two (2) years’ experience with PBMC processing as conducting clinical chemistry, manual and automated hematology will be an added advantage,
• Ability to professionally communicate in writing and verbally or other means deemed appropriate.
• Training in SLMTA, Biosafety and Laboratory Quality Management System is an added advantage.
• Demonstrate skills in professional code of conduct and ethics
