Background:
The infectious Diseases institute (lDl) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organisationwhose mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strongemphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.Established within Makerere University, the institute began life in 2002 andcurrently has 5 departments. The Ugandan academy for health innovationand impact is one of the departments within IDI. The scope and relevantactivities in the academy include developing and piloting health innovationsthat increase access to health services,
Through the “Overcoming Geography with Technology Project" the Ugandan
Academy is exploring use of different new technologies to improve access tohealth services including medication and point of care diagnostics in hard toreach populations around Uganda. lD| therefore wishes to recmit a projectcoordinator/Engineer to provide technical leadership and support executionof this project.

Job Summary ‘
The project coordinator/engineer will be required to support the developmentplanning, implementation and evaluations of innovations that support supplyof medications and diagnostics to hard-to-reach areas. They will be requiredto liaise between different multii-disciplinary team members implementing theprotect including medical, pharmacy, logistics, pilots, software developersand field medical staff. They will also need to liaise with policymakers andother implementing partners at a national and local level. They will be the leadcommunication between the core and field teams. They will ensure that theteam adheres to strict timelines in this deadline-sensitive project. This projectwill require frequent travel to hard to reach areas including Kalangala District,Western Nile region and others.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
• To develop ideas for logistics supplies for HIV services tohard-to reachareas in Uganda
• To explore and research different mechanisms for providing supplychain services in hard to reach areas! populations in Uganda and lastmile health including but not limited to are transport. land transport,boats
• To develop and implementation plan for the project
• To lead ongoing necessary regulatory approvalsfor the project
• Provide leadership and coordination project in the context of the facility
• community framework, working with in~char9es, implementingpartners and government agendas.
• Assist in conducting capacity building and technical assistanceinitiatives for quality improvement and assurance. 'He/she will alsocoordinate trainings and on site mentorships on quality improvementand assurance.
• Generate and submittal required reports in regard to quality improvementand assurance
• To work with the research team to develop a research protocol for theimplementation .
• Ensure minutes of meetings are written and circulated.
• Ensure proper maintenance of project equipment while ensuring that‘ these are serviced and kept in good working conditions.
• Any other duties as assigned from time to timeRequired Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in aviation or mechanical engineering field
• Previous experience/qualifications in project management is essential
• Experience in research/medical field would be an advantage
• Experience in logistics /supply chain! Transportation/aviation would bean advantage
• Knowledge of Process improvement Methodologies will be an advantagee.g. Lean,_Six Sigma, DMAIC
