Role Description
The Communications Officer is a seasoned photographer, videographer, and writer who loves storytelling in a multi-platform and multi-stakeholder environment. The role requires someone who is excellent at creating content, loves capturing stories from the field in challenging environments, and is passionate about community development and equity. You understand the power of storytelling for meeting the organization’s objectives and are able to work both independently and in collaboration with various teams to build RTV’s brand, reputation, and effectively communicate impact to partners, government stakeholders, staff, and the general public.
Key Responsibilities
External Communication
• Document and communicate RTV’s work through powerful storytelling using various mediums including photos, videos, design, and impact stories.
• Ensure that RTV’s publications, reports and videos are of high quality and disseminated appropriately.
• Provide content and ideation in the production of a range of publications including annual report, impact report, donor reports, and newsletters.
• Support in developing and implementing the communications strategy.
• Liaise with mainstream media to profile RTV’s work in accordance with strategy.
• Manage RTV’s digital presence through the website and other social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube etc.
• Provide editorial, design, and creative support during the development of materials such as reports, briefing notes, Information Educative (IEC) materials to ensure that appropriate language is used.
Internal Communications
• Collaborate with HR and the Communications team to plan and implement staff-focused communications campaigns.
• Provide creative documentation of staff events.
• Work with Implementation and PEAL teams to identify core areas of focus for impact stories.
• Provide training and support to the Implementation team for growing field staff-led documentation of impact through photos and testimonials.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Strengthen links with relevant stakeholders including Government departments, donors, partner organizations, staff, and community partners for developing multi-faceted storytelling.
• Liaise with various media houses for publicity and promotion as required.
• Identify/manage logistics for stakeholders for communication activities as required.
• Engage staff and key stakeholders in promoting RTV’s mission. This includes establishing rapport with them and ensuring visibility.
Reporting
• Prepare accurate and timely communications reports for internal stakeholders.
• Provide written and verbal presentations on communications as required.
• Undertake an evaluation of communications initiatives, maintaining accurate data, including reviewing and reporting against the objectives of the various events.
• Maintain current analytics/statistics and fact sheets on the RTV’s social media platforms and website periodically presented to the Management Team and used in presentations when required.
• Complete administrative reporting on a weekly basis and provide support with information sharing for reporting.
• Coordinate the development and maintenance of relevant communications related databases for contacts, reporting, and upcoming deadlines.
• Perform relevant duties as required.
Required Skills
• Exceptional skills in photography, videography, video editing, and design for social media.
• Demonstrated skills in using social media platforms and website maintenance using Content Management Systems (CMS).
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications, specifically interactive digital media and in particular, advanced Adobe Suite, Canva, MailChimp, WordPress and productivity tools.
• Demonstrated skills in program communications, development of Information, Education and communication material, documentation and publication (including web-based documentation).
• Knowledge of best practices in communication research, planning and strategy, and execution of social media and the presentation of key audiences including donors, government, general public, and media.
• Excellent spoken and written English: general ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral forms; specific skills in writing press releases and articles/stories for traditional and electronic media.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate and liaise with a wide cross section of people, including internal staff, partners, service providers and the wider community.
• Ability to meet demanding deadlines with strong attention to detail.
• Fluency in English, Luo, Rutooro, Lusanka, Rukiga, and Lusoga. Rufumbira and/or Runyankole are considered an asset.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently to last mile villages in Uganda for documenting RTV’s work, stories, and impact. Ability to ride and possession of a riding license would be considered an asset.
Required Education and Experience
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as media or communication officer. Experience of working with donor funded projects will be an added advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
• Demonstrated track record and portfolio of work in photo/video/social media.

“Building Resilience and Inclusive Growth of Highland farming systems for rural Transformation†(BRIGHT) will target over 100,000 Ugandan highland households in Kigezi, Mt Elgon, and Rwenzori regions, building project interventions from the ground up that are based on the aspirations and needs of targeted farming households and communities. BRIGHT seeks to build the resilience capacity of farm households and the farming systems to recover from external shocks in an ever-changing context through absorption, adaptation, and transformation and, in so doing, increase incomes and food and nutritional security of all farmers, from subsistence-oriented farm households to more market-oriented ones.
The proposed project aims to achieve the following main impacts:
1. Increased resilience, nutritional outcomes, and income for smallholder farm households; and

IFDC is to recruit a qualified individual to fill the position of Gender, Youth Inclusion Manager for this project, to be based in the main project field office of Fort Portal.
Position summary
The person will lead the integration of gender and youth transformative and socially inclusive programming elements in accordance with global best practice, donor and IDFC’s requirements. The Gender, Youth Inclusion Manager participates in strategy, program implementation, program monitoring, and evaluation in relation to gender, youth and social inclusion integration in all project activities. This includes capacity building and technical assistance to government, private partners, civil society and community stakeholders.
This position provides leadership, guidance and technical support to the project, in designing, implementing and documenting GYSI focused programming.
Main tasks and responsibilities
• Elaborate an overall gender and youth strategy for the project based on finding from the gender, youth assessments conducted during inception phase, oversee the implementation of these strategies and adapt and improve them as needed.
• Develop specific, actionable gender and youth strategies and targets for each result area in the five project components.
• Work closely with Project and Deputy Project Managers in integrating the findings from the gender/youth assessment into the project’s work plan and milestones.
• Ensure that GALS family tree is effectively developed in households and that inclusive decision-making feeds into household visions. .
• Collaborate with management and field teams to integrate gender and youth throughout the project.
• Lead in development and refinement of a project gender and youth integration plan.
• Assess gender and youth dynamics in the selected value chains in coordination with project staff and sector specialists, addressing barriers to improving participation of youth and women.
• Provide support in the development of operational manuals to ensure gender and youth equity and sensitivity in manual content and presentation.
• Oversee the implementation of the Gender Action Plan at field level with the various value chain actors including Farmer Groups, Farmer Business Groups, households.
• Collaborate with local women’s groups, gender-focused organizations, youth-focused organizations and other groups implementing similar gender- and youth-related activities in similar areas
• Participate in gender-related meetings with the donor, stakeholders, government officials, and implementing partners.
• Work closely with technical staff to design and implement activities that strengthen women’s and youth access to finance, training and other resources, such as land.
• Formulate strategies, activities, and messages for communicating the business case for investing in women and youth enterprises.
• Propose indicators and data collection methods for tracking changes in women’s and youth’s empowerment, gender dynamics, and gender inequality gaps that integrate into the projects MIS.
• Develop relationships and linkages with organizations implementing other donor-funded programs focused on gender and youth in Uganda
• Conduct regular community consultations to ensure the project adaptively remains gender and youth sensitive and on-track.

Supervision and team collaboration
The Gender and Youth Manager is supervised by and reports to the Deputy Project Manager. She/ he works in close collaboration with project colleagues, other IFDC staff and colleagues from other project consortium members.
Position and duty station
The Gender, Youth and Social Inclusion Advisor is a national position with a duty in the project field offices Fort Portal.
The position requires intensive travels (up to 50% of the time) in target regions in Uganda and may require some international travel to other IFDC countries.
Required Experience
This is a senior position that requires highly motivated and self-driven individuals with the following qualifications.
• Master’s degree in international development, gender, behavioral economics, agronomy, sociology, or other related disciplines.
• At least 3 years of experience in a similar or related position – demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in gender development, particularly as it relates to food security, agricultural value chains/market systems, climate change, rural household development, and nutrition integrated agriculture.
• Demonstrated success in implementing gender integration, youth and social inclusion strategies and activities in the context of providing advisory services or implementing gender interventions in an agriculture project or program context
• Substantial knowledge of good practices in developing gender integration strategies and interventions, mainstreaming gender in institutions and in projects
• Knowledge and experience in designing and implementing Women and youth Economic empowerment interventions
• Experience in gender related national strategies and policy reviews, analysis, and application
• Must be a self-directed, highly organized person who can effectively prioritize and follow through on multiple initiatives simultaneously
• Strong communication skills, specifically strong verbal communication skills in English including excellent report writing skills
• Ability to conduct training and capacity building to staff and implementing partners on gender equality, women inclusion integration
• Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as conducting field- based assessments

• Knowledge of the Africa national community development and gender policies is an advantage.

Position summary
The Communications manager will be a national position and reports to the Project Manager. He/She will be based in the IFDC Fort Portal office. S/he will be supported by IFDC headquarters communications and knowledge management staff.
Duties & Responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
This role has 2 key areas of responsibility:
1. Supporting the roll out of a Ripple Effect Communications strategy which aligns with brand values
