JOB DETAILS:
Enabel, the Belgian development agency, has been implementing Belgium's international development policy for almost twenty-five years. Our mission is to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals. Every day, our teams strive to build a sustainable and equitable world.
The agency manages more than 170 projects in 21 countries. One of these projects is the Junior Programme, a real professional springboard and a promoter of global awareness. It has been running since 2006.
Its aim is twofold: to promote sustainable international solidarity by recruiting young European talent and enabling them to develop their skills abroad.

Junior Programme
With this vision in mind, the Junior Programme defines itself as a "talent spotter" and a "career booster".
Through their experience talents develop the competences to actively and sustainably engage in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Junior Programme aims to make them active and critical global citizens who are committed to the SDGs.
The Junior Experts work minimum 1 and maximum 2 years in an Enabel project or in a project of one of the Non-governmental organisations (NGO) that are affiliated with the Junior Programme.
The Junior Programme only accepts young people of maximum 30 years old.

Context
The WeLearn and WeTeach project, led by Enabel in Uganda and the Ministry of Education and Sports, aims at transforming lower secondary education.

Our Objectives are
1. Ensure all students, especially vulnerable groups, have access to quality education.
2. Help teachers improve their skills through gender-transformative teaching methods.
3. Increase student retention and completion rates in lower secondary schools
Main Activities:
1. Innovative Teacher Training: Teachers learn practical tools to make their classrooms inclusive and engaging.
2. Community Engagement: Sharing success stories and raising awareness about the importance of education for all.
3. Support for Vulnerable Students: Ensuring safe learning spaces and resources to keep students in school.

Job description
This role is designed to improve Enabel’s education interventions of the WeLearn and WeTeach teams through
1- supporting action research and evidence-based decision making. Lots of data are being collected but are not fully exploited. Better analysis of the available data is needed. There is also a need for more research and evidence-based approach and action research.
2- contributing to the development, improvement and management of (innovative) online courses, teaching content tools and materials (e.g. content for the WhatsApp chatbot, podcast)
3- supporting events (e.g. the Innovation Festival 2026, hackathons,..) that foster collaboration and innovation to address education challenges.

Profile
Required training/degree (eliminatory on CV):
Master or Professional Bachelor’s Degree
• Educational Sciences
• Communication/Journalism
• ICT
• A profile with a good background in statistics

Required specific knowledge (eliminatory on CV):
• Research (action research, Qual and Quan methods – min. 6 months)
• Development of (online) teaching / learning materials (min. 3 months)

Preferred assets (not eliminatory on CV):
• Event management
• Human Centred Design
• Creative & Problem-Solving Mindset
• Hands-on attitude

Language skills:
• English (working language)
• Dutch: basic knowledge (level A2)
• French: basic knowledge (level A2)

Selection criteria and stages
The selection of the applicant for each job opening is made in 5 eliminatory stages.
Step 1 - Screening of CVs
We check that you meet the admission requirements by 2 April 2025
1. Hold Belgian nationality or be a citizen of a member state of the European Economic Union or the Swiss Confederation.
2. Born after 2 April 1994.
3. Respect the specific criteria related to the job (diploma, experience, languages, etc.);
Step 2 – Written test
You are invited to do several online psycho-technical tests;
Step 3 - Oral test in the form of a motivational interview (online)
We will check your motivation to participate in the Junior Programme on the one hand and on your motivation for the specific functions for which you have applied on the other hand;
Step 4 - Oral test in form of Assessment Center (face-to-face)
During a group exercise followed by an individual interview, you will be evaluated on 5 skills considered essential to succesfully fulfil the mission of a Junior Expert.
Step 5 - Interview with the field project team (online)
During this last step, the project team will go a bit deeper into the technical skills and experience for the job of each candidate and check whether you fit in the team. They will take the ultimate decision on which candidate to recruit.
