JOB DETAILS:
Enabel, the Belgian development agency, has been implementing Belgium's international development policy for almost twenty-five years. Our mission is to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals. Every day, our teams strive to build a sustainable and equitable world.
The agency manages more than 170 projects in 21 countries. One of these projects is the Junior Programme, a real professional springboard and a promoter of global awareness. It has been running since 2006.
Its aim is twofold: to promote sustainable international solidarity by recruiting young European talent and enabling them to develop their skills abroad.

Junior Programme
With this vision in mind, the Junior Programme defines itself as a "talent spotter" and a "career booster".
Through their experience talents develop the competences to actively and sustainably engage in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Junior Programme aims to make them active and critical global citizens who are committed to the SDGs.
The Junior Experts work minimum 1 and maximum 2 years in an Enabel project or in a project of one of the Non-governmental organisations (NGO) that are affiliated with the Junior Programme.
The Junior Programme only accepts young people of maximum 30 years old.


Context
In Uganda, poverty remains widespread, especially among women and youth, who form a significant part of the population. Agriculture, dominated by women, struggles with low incomes amidst climate change threats and environmental degradation. Access to startup funds is limited, and unemployment among the youth is high. To address these challenges, supporting women, youth, and marginalized (agro)entrepreneurs is crucial for building sustainable and equitable economies.
The project aims at enhancing livelihoods and market resilience of 85,000 underprivileged (agro)entrepreneurs by strengthening their organizations.
More specifically, the project works on more inclusive farmer and entrepreneur organisations with improved governance, financial management and enhanced service delivery to their members especially with regard to climate adaptation, entrepreneurship, knowledge sharing and advocacy.

Job description
This job aims to support Trias and its local partners in leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. It fulfills the need for improved digitalization within organizations, enabling better service delivery and resource management. Additionally, the role addresses the demand for more sustainable economic practices by exploring and fostering green business innovations, in first instance in relation to waste recycling, green construction and renewable energy and in second instance in various climate-smart farming practices. The added value lies in promoting both technological and ecological resilience among member-based organizations, small businesses and communities. By bridging these two areas, the job contributes to a sustainable and inclusive future.

Profile
Required training/degree (eliminatory on CV):
Master or Professional Bachelor’s Degree
• Agronomy/Bio-engineer
• Biology/Environment
• Civil/industrial/electrical engineer/Architect
• Economy/Commercial engineer/Marketing
Required specific knowledge (eliminatory on CV):
• Professional experience in greening business (min. 6 months)
• Professional experience in use of digital tools in greening business – see result area 1 (3 months)
• Professional experience with training or capacity building (3 months)

Preferred assets (not eliminatory on CV):
• ICT/digital skills
• Green economy/environmental knowledge
• Analytical and data management skills

Language skills:
English (working language)
Dutch: basic knowledge (level A2)
French: basic knowledge (level A2)

Selection criteria and stages
The selection of the applicant for each job opening is made in 5 eliminatory stages.
Step 1 - Screening of CVs
We check that you meet the admission requirements by 2 April 2025
1. Hold Belgian nationality or be a citizen of a member state of the European Economic Union or the Swiss Confederation.
2. Born after 2 April 1994.
3. Respect the specific criteria related to the job (diploma, experience, languages, etc.);
Step 2 – Written test
You are invited to do several online psycho-technical tests;
Step 3 - Oral test in the form of a motivational interview (online)
We will check your motivation to participate in the Junior Programme on the one hand and on your motivation for the specific functions for which you have applied on the other hand;
Step 4 - Oral test in form of Assessment Center (face-to-face)
During a group exercise followed by an individual interview, you will be evaluated on 5 skills considered essential to succesfully fulfil the mission of a Junior Expert.
Step 5 - Interview with the field project team (online)
During this last step, the project team will go a bit deeper into the technical skills and experience for the job of each candidate and check whether you fit in the team. They will take the ultimate decision on which candidate to recruit.
