Project Overview

Play to Grow project is a parent education program that supports the delivery of at-home learning to foster social-emotional skills and early literacy and numeracy in children aged 3-6 through responsive parenting and play in the districts of Isingiro and Adjumani.

The long-term outcome for Play to Grow is for children to have improved SEL, early literacy and early numeracy skills as a result of responsive parenting and Learning through Play. This will be achieved through four modalities of programming led by Parent Educators:

  • Parent Education Sessions where parents learn about responsive parenting, the nine responsive parenting skills, and stimulating playful activities;
  • Parent Support Sessions focusing on self-care and collaboration;
  • Home Visits to collaboratively play with the children, observe how parents practice the nine parenting skills, and answer questions on how they can improve their practices; and
  • Community awareness initiatives utilizing radio programs and parent-teacher meetings to reinforce the value of positive parenting and playful learning for improved SEL, learning outcomes, and family cohesion.
