What we do

Our mandate leads us to people who often have lost all hope because of violent conflicts or natural disasters. ZOA’s staff is working every day to change the lives of people who suffer for the better. Through our interventions, we want to restore hope. Over the past forty years, ZOA has developed specific expertise in the following sectors:

From relief to recovery

ZOA operates in 14 insecure and volatile regions all over the world: serving uprooted people in war-torn South Sudan, displaced Yemenis and returnees in Iraq. ZOA also supports people who face hardship in the aftermath of earthquakes, hurricanes or floods.

Inspired by our Christian faith, we provide assistance to the most vulnerable victims of displacement.

Our values

Our values guide the manner in which we complete our daily work. They are the basis on which we interact with each other and with our target groups.

We value people. All people are made in God’s image and we therefore place people at the centre of our work. We treat people with
respect and dignity, irrespective of ethnicity, gender, religion or age. We seek to enable people to live normal and peaceful lives, develop their potential, and to provide hope for the future.

We are faithful. We want to bring lasting change and are committed to stay when the initial crisis is over. Even when circumstances are challenging we seek to reach out to the most vulnerable.

Our Mission

We are here from relief to recovery

We support people who suffer because of armed conflict or natural disasters, by helping them to rebuild their homes and their livelihoods and to live peacefully together in stable communities.

By working alongside communities, we ensure people’s participation in rebuilding their lives and making them self-sufficient, living peacefully together in stable communities. To accomplish our mission, we work with a wide variety of donors and partners. Where possible, we enter into
partnerships with diverse actors ranging from community based organisations and NGOs to governments and companies.

We believe that God calls us to bring peace, reconciliation, and hope to a broken world. We work towards a world where people have hope and live dignified lives in peaceful communities. We believe that one day we will experience true peace.
