SNV has been present in Uganda since 1989 and undertakes donor funded programming in over 100 districts in Uganda.
SNV is a not-for-profit international development organisation working in Agriculture, Energy as well as Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH). Founded in the Netherlands in 1965, it has built long-term local presence in more than 25 developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. SNV has been present in Uganda since 1989 with a country office in Kampala and regional offices in Fort Portal, Lira and Mbarara through which donor-funded activities are implemented in over 100 districts. SNV works with 70 local partners and 85 staff, 96% of whom are Ugandans. Our long-term on-the-ground presence makes us a trusted implementing partner. Furthermore, it has enabled us to gain an in-depth understanding of local dynamics and equipped us with the strong networks needed to facilitate change.
We provide technical assistance to leading public agencies and businesses to catalyse innovative and strategic solutions that drive growth and performance while creating jobs and generating income; as well as improving access to basic services for the poor.
Who we are
SNV is a not-for-profit international development organisation that makes a lasting difference in the lives of people living in poverty by helping them raise incomes and access basic services. We focus on only three sectors and have a long-term, local presence in around 24 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our team of more than 1,297 staff is the backbone of SNV.
We make a lasting difference in the lives of people living in poverty, helping them raise incomes and access basic services. Driven by the Sustainable Development Goals, we are dedicated to a society in which all people are free to pursue their own sustainable development and no one is left behind. This commitment to equity directs us to focus on gender and youth.
Local presence and know-how to realise effective solutions
SNV bridges the gap between theory and practice, policy ambitions and effective implementation at scale. We implement approaches tailored to local needs as we believe that countries and communities themselves should be the owners of change. By connecting our global expertise with our extensive and longstanding in-country experiences, we help realise locally owned solutions. And we do so in around 24 countries worldwide.
Expertise in three sectors
We are experts in agriculture, energy, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Within these three sectors, we have defined eight products. Our services include advice, brokering and stakeholder engagement, advocacy, fund management, results-based financing and delegated management.
Impact through direct results and systems change
Our projects directly benefit millions of people. At the same time, our projects also drive systems change – strengthening institutions and kick-starting markets to help many more people work their way out of poverty, well beyond the scope of projects.
We are proud to be a not-for-profit organisation, implementing our mission exclusively through project financing. We commit to operational excellence and are proud to be a not-for-profit organisation implementing our mission exclusively through project financing.
