A native Texan,
Dr. Humberto Gonzalez was born in Laredo on July 13, 1947. He joined the Rondels at the age of 17, and he later pursued a career in music instruction, working as a music educator and band director in Hebbronville, Alice, and Laredo, Texas. He served as a principal and school administrator at Mirando City ISD, United High School, and Hebbronville High School before joining the faculty at Texas A&M International University and eventually rising to the post of Dean of the College of Education. In all, he had forty-three years of schooling. Following his retirement, he was named Professor Emeritus by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.
