JOB OESORIPTION AND PURPOSE
The Job of the Accountant is a contractual job for 4 years renewable on satisfactory performance. The Accountant will be responsible and I or directly report to the General Secretary.

The Overall purpose of the position is to lead the department and ensure that the Union's financial management, accounting processes and Internal Controls; are in line with the Union's goals. The roles will be performed incline with the established Financial Policies and Procedures as approved by the UNATU National Executive council.

MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (Accounting Option) from a recognized institution;
  
• Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
  
• A Masters Degree in any relevant field will be an added advantage.
  
• Good interpersonal, supervisory, communication and analytical skills. Demonstrated writing skills and attention to detail. -Ability to communicate effectively in English. -Proficient in use of the Accounting software.
  
• Minimum working experience of 7 years as an Accountant in a reputable organization.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPUNSBILITIES

• in liaison with the General Secretary, manage Union budget according to agreed policies and procedures;
  
• Prepare, examine and analyse accounting records, financial statements and other reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards;
  
• Review taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting and other tax requirements;
  
• Analyse business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations to project future revenues and expenses and provide advice; ‘
  
• Review bank reconciliations and bank records management through quick books accounting software;
  
• Manage online banking in line with the financial procedural manual and management requirements;
  
• Establish charts of accounts, and assign entries to proper accounts;
  
• Appraise, evaluate and prepare record of inventory real property and equipment, to ascertain value;
  
• Monitor expenditure to ensure that Union programme Activities do not over spend and support staff to control expenditures effectively.
  
• Ensure that accounts are approved and submitted to the National Executive Council in time and according to Union's minimum standards;
  
• To manage, support, coordinate and appraise departmental staff under line management in a timely, objective and constructive manner in accordance with UNATU’s HR policies and procedures.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following vacant posts in Uganda National Teachers’, Union (UNATU).

Applications should be submitted in triplicate, to the office of the General Secretary, UNATU, at the Teacher’s House on Plot 28 - 30, Bombo Road, Kampala, to be received not later than 5:00 pm, 5th February 2018.

Applications should bear the title and reference number of the post being applied for.

Applicants should attach certified photocopies of their academic transcripts and certificates, National ID, documentary evidence of all experience claimed, plus recent passport photograph on each application form. Applicants must also provide Reference Letters from three different referees, one being a current or most recent supervisor who should be advised of the closing date to avoid delays. Qualifications from only recognized institutions will be considered.
