JOB DETAILS:

Qualifications and Experience:
• The candidate should have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Architecture or a related
• discipline. Preferences will be given to PhD holders. A minimum of five (5) years teaching and research experience at Tertiary level, and in a Management level position, is preferred.
• The candidate must be conversant with contemporary issues in architectural education, be action orientated, and have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, particularly the ability to manage multiple and diverse academic programmes simultaneously.
• A strong commitment to academic leadership, integrity, creativity and vision, with respect to the future development of the Faculty of the Built Environment at UMU would also be highly valued.
• The post of Dean, Faculty of the Built Environment is appointed at a level of Senior Lecturer in Architecture, or higher. Applicants should therefore demonstrate teaching and research experience in one of the areas of specialty within the Faculty of the Built Environment (Such as; Architecture Design, Architectural Construction, Environmental, and Sustainable Architecture, or Landscape Architecture).

Key Responsibilities:

• To lead the academic team and be the administrative head of the Faculty.
• To be responsible for the overall planning of academic programmes and their continual reassessment to ensure meaningful academic outcomes.
• To be responsible for the implementation of effective research policies and strategies within the Faculty, and the support of staff members to meet such research objectives.
• To oversee quality assurance processes.
• To advise the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs on issues concerning the Faculty.
• To establish/maintain links with relevant educational, professional, and community groups for advice and support where required.
• To be involved in the future development and expansion of the faculty as well as the marketing strategy both nationally and internationally.
