ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
HealthRight International is a global health organization that empowers marginalized communities to live healthy lives, with a particular focus on four program areas: HIV, Mental Health, Violence, and RMNCAH (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health). HealthRight leverages global resources to address local health challenges to create sustainable solutions. Since its founding in 1990 by the late Dr. Jonathan Mann, HealthRight has worked in over 30 countries, with current projects in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the United States. The Peter C. Alderman Program for Global Mental Health (PCAP) currently consists of mental health programming in Uganda, Kenya, and Ukraine. In Uganda, HealthRight implements mental health programs in collaboration with the Government of Uganda and other stakeholders.
JOB SCOPE
The Driver will be working under the supervision and guidance of the Project Coordinator and will be based in HealthRight field office in Lira district. The Driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of HealthRight staff and materials; care and maintenance of HealthRight vehicle and its accessories.
REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum of two (2) years’ driving experience preferably with NGOs.
• Minimum of O level Certificate
• Able to pass the driving test and in possession of a valid driving permit.
• Demonstrated teamwork skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.
• Flexible and able to work in a dynamic and diverse environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work according to the project workplan and schedule activities in order to successfully meet internal and external deadlines.
• Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively.
• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural contexts.
• Ability to work under pressure/cope with tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in English is required and local language (Lango, Acholi, Kumam or Ateso) is required.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Inspect and record the condition of the vehicle on a daily basis; prepare weekly maintenance checklist.
• Ensure timely servicing and maintenance of HealthRight vehicles (complete service request forms and maintain service maintenance records); report to supervisor any mechanical problems.
• Ensure vehicle is insured and all legal documents are in order at all times; inform supervisor three weeks in advance of any renewals due (i.e. insurance, road license, etc.).
• Conduct daily assessments of road conditions and security situation.
• Drive HealthRight program staff in a safe and courteous manner to field sites across the country.
• Deliver mail/messages as directed.
• Maintain cleanliness of interior/exterior of vehicle.
• Give accurate reconciliation within the given period.
• Obey HealthRight vehicle policy and operating procedures at all times (use of logbook, no drinking and driving, signing out vehicle on vehicle registry and so on).
• Assist staff in loading cargo for the field.
• Perform any other data tasks assigned by the project coordinator and/or his/her other supervisors.
