About the role
At Numida, our Engineering Manager will be a key driver in transforming our engineering team’s potential into outstanding performance. In this role, you’ll lead a passionate, innovative team, guiding technical decisions and inspiring excellence across every level.
You’ll empower leadership to focus on strategic initiatives, ensuring our products not only meet today’s demands but also scale for tomorrow’s opportunities.
You will be responsible for setting clear goals, optimizing processes, and establishing measurable success metrics - such as on-time software releases, increased development efficiency, and improved team engagement.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
• Champion modern development practices and best-in-class methodologies. You’ll inspire your team to make thoughtful architectural decisions that align with Numida’s mission, ensuring our technical solutions are both innovative and robust.

Team Management & Execution
• Lead a dynamic group of engineers by setting clear, measurable goals and monitoring progress. Create an environment where accountability and collaboration drive the team to deliver high-quality software on schedule, while celebrating individual and collective successes.

Mentorship & Career Growth
• Invest in your team’s future by offering continuous coaching and structured mentorship. Empower engineers to overcome challenges, enhance their technical skills, and develop into future leaders within the organization.

Collaboration & Communication
• Work closely with product, design, and other cross-functional teams to ensure that technical priorities align with business objectives. Your ability to translate complex technical ideas into clear, actionable plans will be essential.

Process Optimization
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency. By implementing best practices, you’ll elevate the overall performance of your engineering team.

Hiring & Onboarding
• Actively contribute to scaling the team by participating in recruitment and onboarding efforts. Ensure that new hires are integrated smoothly, receive effective mentorship from day one, and quickly become productive contributors.

Experience
Development Experience
• You bring 5+ years of hands-on development experience, including significant technical leadership roles - ideally within FinTech or related sectors in Africa.

Engineering Management Experience
• With 2+ years in engineering management (or equivalent roles such as technical lead or team lead) with a proven track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams in agile, fast-paced environments.

Technical Expertise
• Demonstrate proficiency across a range of technologies including React (JavaScript/TypeScript) and Python (Django or similar frameworks), along with experience managing relational databases (PostgreSQL) and utilizing cloud platforms such as AWS. Familiarity with designing RESTful APIs and implementing state management solutions is highly valued.

Excellent Communication Skills
• Possess the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences - whether presenting to the CEO or collaborating with your team. Your clear, confident communication is key to fostering collaboration and driving results.

Adaptable & Resilient
• Thrive in dynamic, high-pressure environments by being solution-oriented and quick to pivot when challenges arise, ensuring that progress continues seamlessly despite obstacles.

You’ll stand out for this role if you have
• Experience with mobile development (React Native)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Exposure to GraphQL or similar API query languages
