Job Summary
The Finance Officer/Bookkeeper will be responsible for managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting and tax regulations. This role supports the financial health of the organisation through meticulous bookkeeping, financial reporting, and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger management.
• Record and process all financial transactions in accounting software.
• Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial accounts.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
• Prepare financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Ensure compliance with relevant tax regulations and industry standards.
• Support the preparation of financial documents for audits and tax filings.
• Manage payroll processing, employee expense reimbursements, and benefits reconciliation.
• Communicate regularly with management regarding financial status and reporting needs.
• Provide recommendations for improving financial processes and internal controls.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in bookkeeping, finance, or accounting roles.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms).
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Experience in audit preparation and financial documentation management is a plus.
• International development project finance experience is essential.
Preferred Skills
• Knowledge of international financial regulations (if applicable to the role).
• Experience in multi-entity or cross-border financial management.
• Familiarity with cloud-based financial systems.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to interpret financial data.
Working Conditions
• You will be working from our Kampala Office
• Occasional travel may be required for audit support or financial management assistance.
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced financial environment.
