Gender Advisor
Location: Mbarara

Reporting Relationships: The Gender Advisor reports to Director, Community Linkages and Demand Creation

Job Summary
The Gender Advisor will be responsible for leading the overarching technical strategy to address Gender and SGBV in the project implementation area. S/he will lead efforts, in conjunction with all technical teams, to provide guidance and technical support to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), health workers and other key stakeholders that will result in development and implementation of high-quality Gender and SGBV programs and ensure their full integration into health services. Working closely with other project staff and partners, s/he will lead the design of interventions to support the capacity development of Civil Society Organizations and service providers in identification, management and/or referral/linkage of SIGBV cases; and promote awareness and behavior change in target communities, and strengthen advocacy for enhanced provision of Gender and SGBV services

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Masters Degree in Social Work, Gender studies or other related field. A Minimum of 5 years’ experience implementing and developing protection or GBV programs and working to address forms of GBV. Experience in gender issues in Uganda and experience with integration of gender into health projects and services and in providing technical assistance and capacity building to local stakeholders, including CSOs, social service providers, and/or justice actors. Experience in developing anti-GBV strategies and providing technical assistance to diverse stakeholders, such as health workers, CSOs, Government departments etc. Demonstrate the team and organization’s ability to address gender gaps and to empower women and girls. Awareness and knowledge of GBV issues, knowledge, skills and experience in participatory methods for community education and mobilization. Ability to coach, mentor and develop technical capacity in regional and national programs and technical staff in the areas GBV, strengthening referrals and linkages. Experience with and understanding of MOH health care systems and community structures required to implement gender and SGBV program within the integrated health program. Experience working with national/international NGOs and decentralized health systems. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in project implementation; excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Good computer skills, including competence in MS Office and internet - mail. Willingness to travel extensively in the districts of support
