Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF), a UK charity and Uganda non-profit, is inviting applications for the above vacancy based in our Kampala Office. Our mission is to safeguard Uganda's natural heritage by implementing practical conservation and community interventions, influencing policy-makers and engaging the public.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Over the last two years, UCF’s portfolio has expanded rapidly to include new geographic areas and major projects at the national level. Our funding has increased fourfold since 2015, with new partners and beneficiaries, and new systems, staff and strategies to support this growth.

We are at a key point in our evolution and in search of the next General Manager to continue this growth, inspire our team, and consolidate our systems to increase productivity and impact.

The Trustees and Directors of UCF are looking for a strategic, mission- focused, and process-driven leader with a proven track record of scaling an organisation, inspiring and guiding staff, and working within a diverse and talented leadership team to deliver good governance.

The General Manager must be someone who can nurture a performance culture, and improve efficiency and effectiveness of our systems and tools without losing the agility and practical ”can do” attitude which UCF is known by. The successful candidate will be able to exceed goals with a focus on bottom-line, and drive decision-making via diverse leadership teams.

A EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Capacity building ability: to nurture talent and build organizational capacity, develop the culture and processes that ensure it runs smoothly;

Leadership and organization experience: scaling up organizations and building teams, developing accountability and performance-focused culture, empowering talented individuals, providing effective coaching and mentoring, and cultivating entrepreneurial approaches;

Action oriented approach: enjoys working hard and looks for challenges, able to act and react as necessary, not afraid to take charge of a situation, can overcome resistance and take unpopular stands when necessary;

General management: thorough understanding of finance, systems, and HR; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems;

Solid educational background: undergraduate degree required; MBA or similar advanced degree desired; some knowledge of biodiversity conservation desirable;

Other skills and qualifications: general computing and IT, outstanding written and verbal communication, possession of a valid driving license essential.
