What we are looking for
We are looking for an entrepreneurial, experienced General Manager who wants to help disrupt the food ecosystem in East Africa. We are looking to grow our product and help millions of people ensure they have food at the end of the day.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about leading a team, interested in building a business in Uganda, managing customer relationships, building a robust Operations team, and managing a local P&L. This person will be the most important role in our Uganda team. We’re looking for someone who has that entrepreneurial “itch” and wants to use that to build a business from the ground up. There are a few team members already hired in Uganda, so clear people management skills will be a very strong plus!
Additionally, the candidate will be our face across Uganda- traveling to independently manage customers and ensure growth through constant team and customer leadership. This Is a unique position with a ton of growth opportunity (with a proven track record); this position will report directly to the CEO/Founder. It’s an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a business starting to disrupt the agricultural sector across East Africa and an opportunity to help build and shape a business for years to come.

What does the job involve
• Manage team members across departments including Operations, Sales, Finance, and HR; they must be able to lead cross-disciplinary teams and manage multiple issues at once
• Build relationships with key customers and support sales team in identifying new opportunities across Uganda
• Provide feedback and development opportunities to teammates to ensure their continued growth at SVT
• Manage a budget and track expenses and costs continually
• Share local market insights with CEO and help build local strategy to drive market penetration
• Ensure customer expectations are met from our first meeting to every delivery we make; managing on time performance and expectations will be key
• Run a small production facility with personnel to ensure customer orders are met in a timely,consistent fashion
• Conduct high-level networking with other agricultural companies and networks within Uganda (e.g., Hortifresh)
• Ensure all plant and property are cared for and maintained to highest standards
• Support finance team through monthly inventory reconciliation and accounting
• Anything else that helps the team grow

Qualifications
• Have 10-15 years direct management experience, P&L ownership is highly valued
• Will have led teams in operations, logistics, manufacturing and other topics
• Strong team leadership and people development skills- you want others to succeed around you and enable that through servant leadership
• Can prioritize important tasks and ensure that in a world where everything is urgent, the most important things are done
• Has experience budgeting and managing costs to a budget- ensuring no overages and problem solving opportunities with leadership
• Strong problem-solving toolkit with a positive attitude- entrepreneurial drive is key to tackle all the challenges we face
• Be willing to travel to meet customers
• Have a great attitude and be willing and eager to learn
• Be personal and able to foster relationships with customers and gather feedback on our products
• Will understand the sales process and be able to close deals
• Should be proficient in Microsoft Office
• Be fluent in Lugandan and English (KiSwahili is a bonus)
