Job Purpose
The Graduate Trainee – Planning Engineer will support the design, planning, and analysis of electrical distribution systems under the guidance of senior engineers. The role aims to provide practical exposure to network assessments, performance evaluations, and project planning processes while enhancing technical knowledge and professional skills relevant to power distribution systems.
Impact
This role contributes to the reliability and development of the electrical network through learning and participation in planning activities. The trainee will support data analysis, project preparation, and technical evaluations, providing foundational support to ongoing and future projects.
Key Result Areas
- Assist in developing basic electrical distribution layouts and system configurations.
- Participate in collecting and analyzing data for load flow and fault level studies.
- Learn to evaluate network performance and identify potential improvements.
- Support the preparation of reports and recommendations for network upgrades.
- Gain knowledge of relevant electrical engineering standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure assigned tasks comply with company procedures and industry standards.
- Assist in preliminary feasibility studies by gathering data and performing basic calculations.
- Contribute to research and benchmarking activities for planning purposes.
- Work closely with experienced engineers in cross-functional teams including operations and maintenance.
- Participate in site visits, team meetings, and planning workshops.
- Help prepare basic technical documents, including drawings, reports, and cost estimates.
- Ensure proper filing and tracking of project-related data and drafts.
- Assist in identifying and resolving basic network-related issues.
- Participate in incident reviews and troubleshooting exercises.
- Engage in structured learning programs, workshops, and mentorship sessions.
- Demonstrate continuous learning and apply feedback to improve performance.
Expected Output
- Basic but accurate support in planning documents and network design drafts.
- Participation in feasibility studies and planning reviews.
- Clear documentation of assigned tasks and learnings.

Person Specifications
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
- Must have graduated within the last three (3) years from a recognized institution
Experience:
- No professional experience required.
Competencies:
- Willingness to learn and grow within a technical team.
- Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems and safety protocols.
- Analytical thinking and curiosity in solving engineering problems.
- Good communication skills and teamwork.
- Attention to detail and willingness to follow through on tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic engineering tools.
