Job Purpose:
This is a new role that will lead our newly centralised and geographically distributed finance team in serving the changing financial management needs of ADD International and its partners. You will be a qualified accounting professional with strong financial budgeting, reporting and management skills. You will also have a commitment to shifting and sharing power in international development and understand and be able to think through the implications of that for financial management across the organisation.
You will take over from the current interim Head of Finance in leading initiatives to simplify internal financial procedures and implement new financial accounting systems and processes that will simplify internal financial procedures and reduce workloads, while continuing to meet ADD’s donor reporting requirements.
You will have the strong leadership skills needed to shape a newly formed finance team and orient them towards being a customer-focused team supporting ADD and its partners on financial management. You will remotely line manage two Finance Managers who will work closely with a finance officer based in each of the six countries where ADD currently has a presence to support the organisation with high quality financial management information and donor reporting. You will take overall responsibility for the organisational-level budget, management reports and audits and regularly attend Trustee & Senior Leadership Team (SLT) meetings to brief them on financial matters.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design and manage the annual budget process and regular re-forecasts to ensure ADD’s financial sustainability, with a view to optimising the mix of restricted and unrestricted income, value for money in the context of the risks the organisation faces.
• Work with the Technical Team & Regional Directors to devise an effective approach to budgeting for ADD’s new model and ensure that we train all relevant staff in its use.
• Lead our new ADD Finance Team, helping our finance staff to be motivated and feel supported as they get used to our new way of working.
• Ensure that internal controls are well designed and implemented and that ADD International is compliant with all its statutory and donor requirements that relate to financial management.
• Review existing and if necessary, develop a strong financial management and procurement system and policies that align with other internal changes we are making.
• Lead on Global and Country Audit processes on an annual basis.
• Monitor & Report on external audit recommendations, liaising with our auditors in all the countries where we work as necessary to ensure audits take place in a timely and effective manner.
• Ensuring we liaise with consortium partners to report accurately on the spend in existing programmes.
• Manage the transition of our financial accounting system and ensure that an appropriate system is in place working with the Director of Resources, People and Culture.
• Be part of a team working closely with colleagues and your Director to ensure that ADD has the resources and culture needed to make the transformation we are pursuing a reality
• Line manage two Finance Managers (who will in turn work closely with & line manage our Finance Officers in each country) and the UK Finance Officer, in close liaison with the wider Resources, People and Culture and with relevant Regional Directors and Programme Team Leads.
• Help realise any necessary cost savings within our overall budget liaising with staff across ADD and with external parties as necessary.
• Deliver timely financial reports to SLT and Trustees and ensure that we are looking 1 and 3 years ahead at all times and that we continue to build out our top-line 5-year financial projection and financial modelling that will sit alongside our Business Plan.
• Develop the internal financial systems necessary to transition to a model where a significant amount of our turnover is shared on with disability rights organisations as grants and working with the Director of Resources, Systems and Culture help support the development of the processes and procedures we will need to make that a reality, ensuring that the due diligence and reporting we ask of grantees remains flexible and proportionate inline with our commitment to provide flexible funding mechanisms to the sector as part of our new approach.
• Take overall responsibility for ensuring that we have an efficient and effective finance system in place, making necessary changes to ensure it meets the needs of ADD’s internal and external users of financial information and reports.

• Contribute to creating and maintaining an environment (including within ADD) that prevents safeguarding violations and promotes the implementation of ADD’s policy
• Ensure team are fully briefed and trained on ADD’s safeguarding policy and respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns they might raise

• Level 3 - regular access to children/vulnerable adults including on their own, or lead responsibility for safeguarding within office/location

Person Specification:
• Strong customer service focus and commitment to continuous improvement
• Finance/Accounting qualification and significant senior level financial accounting and management experience
• Experience of charity/non-profit law and governance requirements
• Experience of managing and leading a geographically diverse/global team
• An excellent understanding of the requirements of donor reporting
• Experience of working with senior management and a good understanding of the financial reporting and analysis needs of SLT and Trustees
• Ability to ensure strong financial oversight of programme work that is diverse in both content and location
• Experience of designing and supporting implementation of internal controls and financial procedures for staff with limited financial expertise working in low resource settings
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with colleagues across cultural difference
• A commitment to shifting and sharing power in international development and a willingness to work out how this should impact our approach to financial management and reporting
• A commitment to safeguarding children and/or vulnerable adults
• Commitment to, and understanding of, the Social Model of Disability and a rights based approach to development.
