Position overview

A machinist involves operating and maintaining machine tools to fabricate, repair, or reconstruct precision mechanical parts and tooling, following blueprints, sketches, and specifications.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fabrication of machine & mold parts to specification using machine tools such as lathes, shapers or grinders.
  • Measure, examine and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Set up, adjust and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during machining process.
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, equipment and your work area.
  • Adhere to company environment, Health and safety regulations while at work.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the workshop supervisor

Academic/Professional qualifications, work experience, knowledge & skills

Essential:

  • Ordinary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Craft II certificate in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2 years and above of relevant experience in a similar role from preferably steel manufacturing industries.
  • Proficiency in English & the local language
  • Strong general management and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Must be good at applying creativity and innovative skills in managing projects.
  • Should have good analyzing skills as well.
  • Should be a problem solver and be able to grasp the problem at hand and take quick steps to resolve it.
  • Ability to develop, formulate strategy and exercise good judgement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
