On behalf of our client, we are looking for a competent and experienced Mechanical Technician to be based in Kampala, Uganda.
Reports To: The Operations Manager
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary: This role involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems and equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The role also involves performing preventive maintenance, identifying mechanical faults, and conducting repairs on machinery, pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, and other mechanical equipment. The Mechanical Technician shall work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment, machinery, HVAC systems, pumps, and compressors.
- Ensure all mechanical systems are in optimal working condition through regular inspections and maintenance schedules.
- Identify mechanical issues by inspecting and testing equipment, diagnosing faults, and proposing effective solutions.
- Use diagnostic tools and techniques to detect performance issues and resolve mechanical failures.
- Repair or replace damaged parts and components, ensuring systems operate efficiently and safely.
- Modify and upgrade mechanical systems as required to meet operational needs or improve performance.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, and calibrating mechanical components to extend the lifespan of equipment and minimize downtime.
- Develop and follow a preventive maintenance schedule for mechanical equipment.
- Adhere to all safety standards, regulations, and company policies when performing mechanical tasks.
- Ensure mechanical systems comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections, documenting parts used and work completed.
- Report any recurring issues or equipment failures to the maintenance supervisor or engineering team.
- Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and other maintenance staff to coordinate tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Assist in the installation of new mechanical systems and equipment as required.
- Monitor and manage inventory of mechanical parts and tools, ensuring that necessary items are in stock and readily available for maintenance tasks.
- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns and emergencies, diagnosing and fixing issues to minimize operational disruptions.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology or a related field.
- Understanding of mechanical systems, machinery, and tools specific to the industry (e.g., HVAC, pumps, motors, compressors, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, components, and equipment.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues.
- Excellent Problem-Solving and Analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in repairs and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent Time Management and Organizational skills.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
Barriers to Success in Role
- Limited or lack of knowledge about mechanical systems, components, and equipment.
- Inability to diagnose mechanical issues.
