War Child is an internationally recognized charity that works with war-affected communities to help children reclaim their childhood through access to education, opportunity and justice. in Uganda, through its Access to Justice and Protection programmes, War Child Canada provides LegalAid services for Women and Child Survivors of violence and raises public awareness around the impact of conflict on communities and the shared responsibility to act. This programme has now expanded to the South Sudanese refugee settlements in the West Nile region and Kiryandongo where War Child Canada seeks to increase the legal protections of children, youth, women and men and continue to address the prevalence of perpetrators’ impunity through legal intervention, awareness raising and capacity building. Our programming emphasizes strong Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) prevention, identification and response interventions.

War Child Canada has recieved funding from United States Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (BPRM) to increase protection for refugees and other vulnerable persons in Ugandan refugee settlements in the districts of Adjumani, Arua, Kiryandongo, Koboko and Kamwenge. We are now seeking several qualified, experienced, and dynamic persons to join our team in the following positions:

Job Title: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer.
Reports to: Head of Programs.
Location: Kampala, with frequent travel to field projects districts as required.
Duration: 12 months with possibility of extension.

MEAL Officer is responsible for the development of an effective results-based M&E system, ensuring that knowledge generation, management and use is effectively built into the whole project cycle of WCC Uganda programs. The position holder will play a major role in project monitoring, periodic data collection and analysis, devise mechanisms and lead the process for effective dissemination, utilisation and documentation of teaming. Slhe actively takes part in the design as well as the execution of baseline, surveys, midterm and end of project evaluations all WCC projects in Uganda.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential:

  • BScJBAIMSclMAin Economics, Applied Statistics, Social Studies, Rural Development, or other related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience for BSrJBA holders and 1 year for MSc/MA holders working in MSE.
    Training / knowledge on statistical software, and ability to interpret what conclusions can and cannot be drawn from data.
  • Strong understanding of participatory approaches and current developments trends.
  • Skills and hands on experience on conducting or commissioning qualitative and quantitative research methods, designs and impact evaluations.
  • Working in multi partner environments to insure sufficient rigor in M&E.
  • Writing and presenting analytically sound documents clearly to a wide range of audiences.
  • Highly organized with attention lo details.
  • Strong interpersonal. communication and motivational skills.
  • Firm belief in teamwork, human rights and gender equality.
  • Excellent English communication (written and spoken) ability.
  • Excellent record keeping and report writing skills.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, internet)
