Position: Ophthalmic Clinical Officer (OCO)
Duration of Employment: fixed Term contract (Two years).

Description: The Ophthalmic Clinical Officer has the overall responsibility to ensure that all eye health activities are implemented..
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Counseling of patients and their attendants.
• Establish a good relationship with patients and their attendants.
• Treating clients eye diseases in Outpatient Deparirnem (OPD) and other work stations.
• Screening patients for operation
• Explaining to patients the intensity of the disease and encourage them to come back for follow up.
• Attending and participating in ward rounds and Night shifts.
• Pruvlrte consultations at the eye clinic
• Diagnose, manage and conduct cataract surgeries as rnqulrod
• increase community health workers‘ awareness on eye conditions and eye care by conducting primary Eye care trainings.
• Carry out patient education on the imnottanoo nt wearing spectacles tor correction of eye defects.
• Perform minor eye surgeries ,trachorna surgeries and reter complicated oases appropriately
• Take part in planning and participating in surgical eye camps.
• Selecting and referring complicated eye surgeries to the Ophthalmologist for further management.
• Carrying out some spherical retraction and low Vision Assessments.
• Maimain Optical and Surpicai instruments and assist the Doctors in Surpcry where necessary.
• Ensure that all assessments and treatment provided are properly documented In patient tiles.
• Should always he available in case of emergencies at night.
• Be innovative/creative and advise management un clinical matters.
• Admit to the wards and provide quality management for eye in-patients.
• Maintain equipment in a good condition and submit regular inventory reports oi the same
• Attend and participate in weekly Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions attire hospital.
• Attend and participate in the daily morning hospital handover meetings.
• Keep a complete and accurate inventory of medicines, equipments and other supplies in the program.
• Assist the Ophthalmologist in preparation and submission of the weekly and monthly activity reports.
Key Competences:
• Ability to write clear, concise reports and well developed communication skills
• Good computer skills.
• Must be a team player, flexible and culturally sensitive
• Ready to work in Tororo on full time oasis.
• Good time management
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine
• Ophthalmology/ Cataract surgery.
• Registered with the Clinical Officers Council.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Good analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ba creative, innovative and sensitive to quality.
• Excellent command of the English language (both spoken and written) and must be multilingual.
