PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools) is a social enterprise with a mission to expand access to sustainably delivered, quality secondary education across Africa. PEAS establishes and operates affordable secondary schools in Uganda and Zambia in areas where access to quality secondary education is limited due to cost and geographical barriers. PEAS launched an ambitious strategy in 2021, aimed at expanding Access to Quality education, ensuring schools are Sustainable and investing in systems strengthening. With over 30 secondary schools in Uganda educating over 16,000 students, 58 staff at the Country Office and 1000 staff working in the network schools, PEAS intends to expand its geographical coverage and impact. PEAS Uganda is seeking to fill the following vacancy:
Job Summary:
The role will aim to achieve operational excellence in People and Culture at both office and school level ensuring that we are attracting, recruiting, selecting, retaining the best people and supporting them to deliver exceptional services to the young people we serve. You will be part of a global People and Culture group that includes People and Culture lead in the UK and HR Officer in Zambia. As a group, you will work collaboratively on People and Culture initiatives that can be adopted and adapted in all offices.
Specific responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Develop, deliver and iterate a People and Culture strategy that aligns to PEAS organizational strategy.
• Working with the Country Strategic team, ensure that there is a strategic workforce plan that is designed to support the delivery of PEAS organizational strategy
• Be the technical expert for the Uganda office in People and Culture matters for HR issues such as performance, disciplinary and grievance processes.
• Manage, deliver and monitor the People and Culture annual planning and strategy development and budget.
• Develop and implement strong People and Culture initiatives that deliver effectiveness and adaptability
• Lead on developing new and strengthening existing People and Culture systems and processes improvement to drive operational excellence at school level and office level
• •Provide People and Culture expertise to support the Country
• Strategic team and Managers to identify and implement operational excellence initiatives.
• The development and review of employment policies and
• procedures in line with current legislation, safeguarding, organizational values and best practices.
• To advise, assist staff and managers to ensure that they are fully trained in relation to the implementation of all employment legislation.
• Manage the relationship and consult with the PEAS lawyer and other statutory bodies when needed for HR issues.
• Work with the Head of Operations in the annual planning budget to ensure that there is annual costed leaming and development plan. Design, develop and implement a Leadership and Managers program that supports strong people management and performance culture aligned to PEAS culture.
• Coordinate and monitor compliance with completion of mandatory training such as safeguarding, data protection etc.
• Lead in the design, development and implementation of People and Culture DEI initiatives.
Required Qualifications and Experience
• A minimum University degree in Human Resources or Organizational Development and post graduate training in Human Resource Substantive experience (at least 6 years) in Human Resources, with at least two years of working at strategic leadership level. Detailed up to date knowledge of Uganda's employment law. Strong level of IT literacy including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Clous Software such as HRIS and the internet. Experience and knowledge of strategic workforce planning Experience, knowledge and passion for People and Culture system and processes design and improvement to deliver results.
