Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a research and policy non-profit that discovers and promotes effective solutions to global poverty problems.

Job Summary: The Qualitative Research Field Manager should be an experienced qualitative researcher and native Acholi speaker to coordinate process evaluation activities which are embedded within a cluster-randomized controlled trial. The trial is assessing whether data-informed community co-managed vaccine defaulter tracing increases infant penta-valent 3 and measles vaccine coverage. The intervention is called the ‘Fifth Child Project’ and it is being implemented by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Northern Uganda. We are looking for a social scientist with experience in conducting semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, transcription/translation of interviews and qualitative data analysis. The potential candidate should also have experience of leading field work activities and managing/mentoring junior staff. The study constitutes a partnership between IPA, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and IRC.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Communicating with national, district and local officials, healthcare providers, village household members as well as LSHTM academics and IPA research team;
• Field piloting and refining survey tools for data collection;
• Recruiting, assessing, training and managing a small team of interviewers and transcribers;
• Planning and organizing of interviews, focus groups and observations in rural Acholi Region;
• Create project timeline and ensure successful scheduling and mobilization of each appointment;
• Managing information and data collected and ensuring targets are reached in a timely manner;
• Designing and coordinating data quality assurance and auditing systems;
• Financial budgeting and control of field budget and transport, per diem, facilitation allowances;
• Maintaining/repairing project inventory including tablets, laptops, voice recorders, generators, etc.;
• Supervising health and safety of interviewing team and reporting issues according to internal processes;
• Maintain compliance with all organizational policies and procedures
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree desirable
• A minimum of three to five years of qualitative research experience
• Native Acholi/Luo language skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook, ideally some experience with NVIVO)
• Willingness to live in rural Acholi Region for duration of contract
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
