Role overview
Working at project location – In this role, you will provide on-site support in the project location and/or VSO office, (full-time unless otherwise specified) for a set period of time.
Take lead in mentorship and coaching of cares givers to build their capacity to deliver quality inclusive ECCE in refugee and host community context. He/she will also play a center role in mobilizing communities to increase value and uptake of ECCE in-emergency setting.

Responsibilities
District level engagement
• In collaboration with the teacher training college and the district education office, train ECCE care givers to ensure adherence to the learning framework and policy guidelines, child participation and life skills
• Mentor and coach, ECCE care givers and Centre Management Committees
• In coordination with the refugee and host communities, form and train male action groups on positive parenting skills and role of fathers in their children’s education
• Sensitize refugee and host community members on the value of ECCE and role of care givers to increase uptake of ECCE and on rights and entitlements
• In collaboration with Community Development office and leaders for refugees and host communities, conduct community dialogue on inclusion especially for CWDs, children from marginalized communities, protection and peaceful conflict resolution especially in education for girls and other marginalized groups
• Build the capacity of Centre Management Committees and parents support groups on leadership skills, roles and responsibilities and parenting skills
• Together with the protection and psychosocial volunteer, establish simple and age-appropriate protection mechanisms at the ECCE learning centers
• Participate in the development of project quarterly work plans, reports and document case stories
• Document and disseminate project’s best practices and lessons learnt
• Establish project accountability and feedback mechanisms with Community Development Office and other stakeholders
• In collaboration with the project team and the MEL manager, document and disseminate community norms and practices that facilitate effective implementation of ECCE in-refugee settings
• Promote and uphold internal policies and procedures including but not limited to VSO’s safe guarding and Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct Promote and uphold internal policies and procedures including but not limited to VSO’s safe guarding and Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
• Undertake any other duty and tasks that may from time to time be assigned by the Line Manager consistent with the nature of the job and its level of responsibility.
VSO level engagement
• Participate in VSO coordinated activities with other partners and other stakeholders
• Prepare quarterly work plans, requisitions and reports
• Attend and participate in quarterly planning and coordination review meetings
• Prepare for quarterly placement reviews with the programme manager and/or officer at placement location or at VSO quarterly meetings
• Participate in VSO-led monitoring and evaluation.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria (must have to be able to carry out the role successfully)
Knowledge/qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences/Social work, Community development, Gender studies, special education, primary education or related field
• Knowledge and understanding of social inclusion and gender, resilience and social accountability in education globally and in Ugandan context
• Facilitation, training and mentorship and coaching skills
• Excellent oral and written English language skills
• Experience:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in early child hood care and education and community development
• Previous experience as a teacher educator and knowledge on the local policy context is a must
• Demonstrable experience working with communities in refugee settings
Desirable Criteria: (skills that could be an advantage in the role)
• High-level communication skills, including engaging and informative public speaking
• Ability to interact skillfully with diverse rural groups of people
• Planning, organizational and management skills
• Well-developed drive for results competencies
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Basic computing skills
