JOB DETAILS:
Job Summary
Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Specialist will support the implementation of the Absa Group Limited communication function and within the Ugandan context by managing and ensuring the correct usage of internal and external communication channels and encourage two-way communication at all levels. The job holder will act as a key support to the Communications Manager by ensuring communications support to the business goals and objectives.

Job Description
Internal Communications Delivery (40%)
Outputs:
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand Communication needs and expectations, and provide necessary support to the leadership team
• Drafting and gaining agreement to content of communications in line with communication plan & aligning country messages with Absa Group strategic messages
• Establish and manage internal communications programme and plan, in-line with overall Absa Group communication plan
• Update country pages (i.e. local sections in each publication or channel) with up-to-date country information, news and pictures, including updates to the local intranet.
• Ensure swift and timely delivery of communications to target audiences
• Establish and nurture a healthy two-way communication process with target audiences to enhance and build ongoing feedback to the Head of Communications
• Ensuring that brand values and visual identity are incorporated into communication deliverables
• Build mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders
• Measure, monitor and report on the effectiveness and impact of communication interventions
• Integrate and align Public Relations, Internal Communications & Marketing activities for various business units in the country
• Timely reporting as request
• Ensure alignment of Absa Uganda internal communication policies and adherence by all colleagues
• Represent the MCX Department or the unit in other functional meetings (locally and/or at group) as required

External Communications Delivery – 20%
Outputs:
• Build and manage relations with country media on delivery of external communications
• Monitor media stories and provide a media brief (daily and monthly) with a view of indicating impact of Absa in the country (internally and externally)
• Provide and develop communications support for the implementation of programmes and campaigns
• Identify key issues and the impact on business, and provide appropriate communications advice and solutions to the Communications and the business
• Research and write for print, online and broadcast communication platforms
• Ensure swift and timely delivery of communications to target audiences
• Establish and nurture a healthy two-way communication process with target audiences to enhance and build ongoing feedback to the Head of Communications

Business partnering – 20%
Outputs:
• Prepare and put in place a stakeholders’ list/matrix
• Represent the MCX Department or the unit in other functional meetings requiring communication support
• Share best practice and learning with colleagues and seek continuous improvement opportunities
• Contribute to the development of a strong culture within the Marketing & Customer Experience function, which positions Absa as the employer of choice for communicators
• Contribute to a ‘one team’ ethos working with media/communication colleagues both centrally and regionally

Risk, Governance and Regulatory – 20%
• “Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.”
Education
• Higher Diplomas: Communication Studies and Language (Required)
